stellar ensemble performances Finally...the transfer to DVD.( and how good it looks!!) Albert Finney is superb as Poirot, and is well supported by a cast of 'all-stars'. Nice extras, too, with some background on Dame Agatha ( courtesy of her grandson ) With a memorable soundtrack, this is what all movies should aspire to.

"Strangers on a Train", or "Too Many Clues" Agatha Christie's intrepid detective, Hercule Poirot, unravels the oblique connections between an apparent group of strangers to solve a gruesome murder aboard the fabled train. The story has shades of the famous Lindbergh kidnapping, with unexpected twists and a stellar ensemble cast of big stars in small parts. A bit short on suspense, but a lot of fun. Murder On The Orient Express film
$12.85 Based on the journals of Brother Gaspar de Carvajal, AGUIRRE, THE WRATH OF GOD is director Werner Herzog's hallucinatory tale of Spanish colonialists searching for El Dorado, the legendary city of gold, in 16th-century Peru. When the travellers reach an impasse, a scouting party is assembled to search for any traces of the mythical empire. As they attempt to forge their way through the dense jungle, more and more of the party falls ill while their ruthless leader, Don Lope de Aguirre (Klaus Kinski), grows increasingly insane.
Widely considered to be Herzog's finest film, AGUIRRE, which shares much in common with Francis Ford Coppola's APOCALYPSE NOW, highlights the director's visionary approach to filmmaking. Like Coppola's film, accounts of AGUIRRE's shooting are laced with legendary incidents, such as the ...

Murder On The Orient Express movie DVD
$10.29 John Ford's memorable screen version of John Steinbeck's epic novel of the Great Depression--often regarded as the director's best film--stars Henry Fonda as Tom Joad. After having served a brief prison sentence for manslaughter, Joad arrives at his family's Oklahoma farm only to find it abandoned. Muley (John Qualen), a neighbor now nearly mad with grief, tells Tom of the drought that has transformed the farmland of Oklahoma into a desert and of the preying land agents who have plowed under the shacks of the sharecroppers. Joined by former hellfire preacher Casy (John Carradine), Tom finds his extended family, including Pa (Charles Grapewin) and his indomitable Ma (Jane Darwell), packing their ramshackle truck to seek work in the fields of California. As the family treks across the country, their dissolution begins with the deaths of Tom's grandparents at close intervals. When they arrive in California, the Joads find only an abundance of poverty-stricken migrants like themselves and little in the way of potential work. Yet, ever resilient, they maintain their dignity, hoping for the best.
Among the talented cast, Fonda does perhaps the best work of his career, as does Qualen in the film's most haunting sequence. Director of photography Gregg Toland captures the suffering and the weathered, luminous nobility of the Joads and the other uprooted, drifting families, creating striking images equal to the best work of Dorothea Lange and Walker Evans. In a stirring film that stands as a microcosm of the depression experience of millions, Ford gives poverty a human face in a way that was rare then and even rarer in the decades to follow ...

$14.79 The first of 14 films pairing Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce as the definitive Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, this version of THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES remains the most celebrated adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic mystery. When his uncle is found murdered on the grounds of the family estate, Sir Henry Baskerville (Richard Greene) arrives from abroad to claim his ancestral home on the fog-shrouded Devonshire moors. But family friend Dr. Mortimer (Lionel Atwill) brings Sir Henry to master sleuth Sherlock Holmes with fears for the young heir's life and tales of a family curse placed upon the Baskerville clan. Together they travel to the desolate Baskerville Hall and encounter a slew of mysterious goings-on, including a suspicious butler (John Carradine) and the ghost of a hound haunting the moors. Dripping with atmosphere, this suspenseful and absorbing film is one of the true gems of the Holmes adaptations.
The most celebrated tale of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's canon, 'The Hound ...
| | Dial M For Murder DVD (1954) Full Frame; Dubbed; Subtitled
Murder On The Orient Express film
$13.29 Alfred Hitchcock had already begun work on REAR WINDOW when he took on the project to direct DIAL M FOR MURDER, based on the successful play by Frederick Knott. For the film, Hitchcock chose to cast his favorite leading lady of the time, Grace Kelly, as the embattled Margot Wendice. Kelly would also star in REAR WINDOW and Hitchcock's subsequent TO CATCH A THIEF. It wasn't Hitchcock's preference to shoot DIAL M FOR MURDER in Warnercolor 3D (the cameras were large and unwieldly), and the film is seldom screened in 3D, but Hitchcock's use of the technique is notable for its service to the story rather than just being a gimmick. In the film Margot Wendice is a wealthy heiress whose playboy husband, Tony (Ray Milland), recognizes his dependence on his wife's fortune. When Tony begins to suspect he is losing Margot's affection to writer Mark Halliday (Robert Cummings), he also begins to fear he will lose her wealth. This leads the callous husband to craft a plan for his wife's death. However, when the plan goes awry, Tony is quick to turn circumstance into a second opportunity to destroy his ...

| | Golden Temple Amazons DVD (2005)
Murder On The Orient Express movie DVD
$14.29 Astonishingly prolific (with over 150 titles to his name) Spanish exploitation filmmaker Jess Franco co-directs GOLDEN TEMPLE AMAZONS. The film stars Alice Arno and Lina Romay, two of the oft-naked actresses who were part of Franco's stable of actors in the 1970s. A group of cruel Amazons lurks deep in the jungle, discovered by a family of explorers. Fearful that the explorers might tell the world of their great wealth, the Amazons murder the older explorers but spare their daughter, who they raise as one of their own. But when the daughter, Liana, grows up and discovers her parentage, she decides to take bloody revenge on the leaders of the Amazon tribe. Franco's trademark sex and violence is amply displayed in his rarely seen GOLDEN TEMPLE AMAZONS.
A tribe of Amazons is zealously guarding a mysterious fortress built on top of a gold mine. Uruck and his cruel, sadistic mistress Rena rule the tribe. Some 15 years ago, an explorer discovered their secret slaughtered both him and his wife. However their daughter, Liana, was spared and grew up in the jungle, raised by tribesmen. Now a beautiful girl, Liana ...
