Closed Captioned; Standard Screen; Soundtrack Spanish Born into poverty in Mexico in 1932, Javier Solas supported his family from a young age though boxing and as a singing butcher. At 16, he began singing full time, which led to a successful recording career in 1950. Beginning in 1957, he starred in 20 films, singing in his own inimitable style. He died in 1966 at the age of 33. This Spanish-language documentary probes his rise to fame and a film career that shone a light on the plight of the less fortunate. $9.69 This Academy Award-winner for Best Foreign Language Film was a big art house hit, spawning a whole international subgenre, "foodie" (films about the liberating effects of good food). It's adapted from a story by Isak Dinesen about two sisters in a 19th century Calvinist settlement in Denmark who, under their late father's rigorous spiritual dictates, pass up their chances for romance and worldly success. Years pass; they grow into charitable old spinsters and one day a French war refugee, Babette (Stéphane Audran), comes to work for them. Life goes quietly one for years until one day Babette decides to prepare a lavish gourmet dinner for the elders of the town, even though the thought of such decadence makes the sisters fear for their Christian souls. This all may sound rather dull to some viewers, but rest assured, no one who has seen this film has ever regretted it. Even with its measured pacing ...

Man In The Shadows: The Life Of Javier Solas DVD
$10.29 Following the outrageous comedies THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY, SHALLOW HAL, and DUMB AND DUMBER, the Farrelly brothers present yet another humorous romp with STUCK ON YOU. This time around a couple of conjoined twins (Greg Kinnear and Matt Damon) are the focus, and this premise provides for a relentless string of clever, absurd, and always-fresh jokes. Bob (Damon) and Walt (Kinnear) are living happy lives, perfectly content to be joined by a patch of skin that extends from armpit to hip and allows them to share a liver. Though they must do everything in tandem, they are best friends and treat each other as individuals with separate lives. Living on Martha's Vineyard, Bob (Damon) owns a popular local diner where he and Walt work as incredibly fast-moving short-order cooks with all four hands in perfect sync flipping burgers and slicing vegetables--this is one of the best gags in the film. However, as the brothers are shown playing hockey, fighting kung-fu ...
