After years as Puff Daddy's main protege, Mase exploded to the pinnacle of hip-hop success with the multi-platinum albums HARLEM WORLD (1997) and DOUBLE UP (1999). Then, as swiftly as he achieved that fame, he gave it all up, announcing his retirement from the rap game to enter the ministry. While many wrote it off as a passing fancy, he stuck with it for five years, until his desire to make music could apparently be suppressed no longer, and he emerged with his third record, WELCOME BACK.
On the title track, Mase reworks a line from the classic WELCOME BACK, KOTTER theme song--"the game has all changed since I've been around"--which is impossible to debate in the ever-changing rap world, but Mase himself hasn't changed. He's still the easy-flowing, affable MC he was before the gospel grabbed him. He can still pin a clever rhyme on a catchy hook, as he does by incorporating Madonna's "La Isla Bonita" on "My Harlem Lullaby," or flex his muscles around a tender ballad as on "I Wanna Go." WELCOME BACK may follow five years of silence, but it sounds as if he never left.

This album has been a joy to listen to and I highly recommend it to any youth or parent of a young person interested in rap. Submitted by John (Okinawa, Japan) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
it s not that good mase was the best in 1990's with biggie and diddy along side of him, in this album there's no swearing or good rapping, ok beats. why would he join g-unit, he dosen't fit in. don't buy the album it's waste of money Submitted by big popps (wallingford, CT, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Harlem sat down with this one I am from harlem and I couldn't stand up for this one at all. Breathe, Stretch, Shake is the only song that definitely takes you back to the harlem world cd but the rest is just plain ol' horrible. However, his new mixtape "Crucified for the hood" is something to look out for on a lyrical standpoint but he will never get respect from fans because of his pastor title.
Should've never retired ma$e Submitted by poeticliterature (East Harlem, NY) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Welcome Back music CDs
$18.59 STRAIGHT OUTTA CASHVILLE lives up to the N.W.A. reference in its title. Like N.W.A., Buck delivers lyrical blows--sudden, blunt, and ruthless--without forgetting the importance of a powerful hook to seduce the listener into his murky world, particularly on the hit single "Let Me In." As with fellow G-Unit member 50 Cent, Young Buck lived the life he relates. His life pours out gloriously and without apology on "Look at Me Now" and "Prices on My Head." Young ...

| | Nelly Suit CD (2004)
Welcome Back album
$12.75 Nelly broke out in 2000 with his debut, COUNTRY GRAMMAR, and its infectious summer-anthem title track. Two years later, the St. Louis rapper dropped the multi-platinum NELLYVILLE and another summer anthem, "Hot in Herre," which balanced raw carnality with a deft pop hook. Nelly has always possessed this duality of unrefined energy and a melodic sensibility, and, in 2004, he decided to break the two aspects of his music into separate albums, SWEAT and SUIT.
On SUIT, he focuses on his more cultivated side with a constantly engaging, tightly produced record, filled with memorable singles. Just because there's a measure of manner pervading the record doesn't mean that Nelly's not having fun, as the disc ...
| | Nelly Sweat CD (2004)
Welcome Back CD music
$13.39 After a pair of multi-platinum records made Nelly the instant icon of St. Louis rap, the man who found the perfect balance of pop and hip-hop still had a surplus of music to let out. So with his 2004 efforts, Nelly decided to split up his new compositions into two albums--the down-and-dirty, raw club jams and the smooth, refined songs, respectively SWEAT and SUIT.
SWEAT opens with "Heart of a Champion," a powerful, sports-referencing piece of adrenaline-pumping hip-hop that samples, of all things, John Tesh's "Roundball," the ubiquitous theme ...
| | Uriah Heep Firefly CD (1977)
Welcome Back music CDs
$12.79 FIREFLY is the reissue of Uriah Heep's 1977 release and features "Hanging Tree," "Been Away Too Long," and eight bonus tracks, including the b-side "Crime Of Passion."
After losing founding vocalist David Byron in 1976, many hard rock fans thought Uriah Heep had reached the end of the line. However, the group bounced back in 1977 with Firefly, an album that pursued a stripped-down sound harking back to the group's early-'70s successes. They also boasted a new singer in John Lawton, a vocalist who had made his fame working with artsy German hard rockers Lucifer's Friend. Although he lacked the multi-octave range of David Byron, Lawton boasted an impressive and emotionally rich hard rock voice that instantly jelled with the Uriah Heep sound. An ideal example of this new synergy was provided by the opening track, "The Hanging Tree," which featured Lawton dramatically delivering a narrative about an outlaw on the run over a spooky musical track that blended echo-drenched synthesizers with some typically gutsy guitar riffs from Mick Box. Other memorable tracks on Firefly include "Who Needs Me," a spirited slice of boogie rock with a rousing singalong chorus, and the title track, a miniature prog epic that deftly ...
