Collaboration between beloved outsider singer-songwriter Daniel Johnston, pop artist Ron English, and singer-songwriter Jack Medicine
Hyperjinx Tricycle is a collaboration between beloved outsider singer-songwriter Daniel Johnston, pop artist Ron English, and singer-songwriter Jack Medicine. The bulk of this set's tunes are sung by Johnston and touch on themes common to Johnston's work (heaven and hell for starters), but the instrumentation and production touches are more varied than on a typical Johnston album, with spacey textures, dance beats, and hummable folk rock all vying for space. While not the place to start with Johnston's extensive catalog, there are some gems here, including his rejected theme song for the GREG THE BUNNY television show, the lovely "Road to Heaven," and the Simpsons tribute "Happy Springfield."

Hyperjinx Tricycle album
$12.79 Part of Brian Wilson's appeal has always been that, despite the sophistication of his songwriting and production skills, he is the eternal man-child. On GETTING' IN OVER MY HEAD, the 62-year-old ex-Beach Boy has lost neither his childlike innocence nor his knack for crafting pop-perfect mini-symphonies. His first studio recording in six years is closer to the vintage Beach Boys sound than any of his solo work to date, and Wilson's wide-eyed sense of wonder at the beautiful mysteries of the world is fully present. Though some superstar guests pop up (Paul McCartney, Elton John, Eric Clapton), they almost pass unnoticed ...
| | Neko Case Tigers Have Spoken CD (2004)
Hyperjinx Tricycle CD music
$11.99 For 2004's THE TIGERS HAVE SPOKEN, her debut on the prestigious Anti label, alt-country singer/songwriter Neko Case forgoes a studio album in favor of a live outing. Those looking for the upbeat pop of Case's work with the New Pornographers won't find it here--this is straight-up twangy country rock that sticks closely to the sound of her previous records (BLACKLISTED and FURNACE ROOM LULLABY), and makes the most of the concert setting.
The focus here, as always, is on Case's powerful voice, which channels Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn while remaining undeniably individual. Aided ...

| | Sting Brand New Day CD (1999)
Hyperjinx Tricycle music CDs
$24.45 BRAND NEW DAY won the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Pop Album. "Brand New Day" won the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Performance.
Hong Kong limited version import. Comes with bonus song, "Windmills Of Your Mind," as part of the full length. Plus an additional EP CD with three live performace tracks and a club remix of "Desert Rose."
BRAND NEW DAY continues Sting's sophisticated approach toward pop music as he once again collaborates with ace musicians on material that knows no cultural or stylistic boundaries. Not surprisingly, the tantric guru chooses love as the theme for this eclectic collection of songs.
Sting's cross-cultural forays range from a collaboration with Algerian singing sensation Cheb Mami on the Ofra Haza-meets-William Orbit "Desert Rose" to the bossa nova-influenced "Big Lie Small World." There's a jazz patina throughout--guest trumpeter Chris Botti emulates Miles Davis on the coffee-house hip-bop of "Perfect Love...Gone Wrong" and long-time friend Branford Marsalis adds mournful clarinet to the sumptuous string arrangements of the noirish "Tomorrow We'll See," a song about a weary prostitute straight out of a Raymond Chandler novel. Although the upbeat yet moody title track cheerfully rings with Stevie Wonder's bubbly harmonica, Sting's ...
