With Dead Hands Rising Horror Grows Near Songs Horror Grows Near Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) explosive I accidently stumbled across these guys when they played a gig down here in Vegas in 2003, I was pretty impressed so I picked up their first album "The Inquisition"...haven't heard from them since. Well about 5 years later Revolver magazine had an ad for their new album "Expect Hell" upon purchasing it I noticed cduniverse had a nice little EP they released about a year before. And all I can really say is...damn. For a little 6 song offering these are some pretty "balls-out" tunes that shows these guys have grown a whole lot since "The Inquisition" days, the songs are tighter, production is nicer and the tunes are 10times more explosive. I'm not going to drop obscure subgenre references like "Deathcore" or anything, but if there was a band that fit into that; WithDeadHandsRising is your band. Songs brilliantly blaze through like old-school 80's style Death Metal right before adding in a mosh-worthy breakdown that would make Hatebreed jealous. The opening song "Corey Feldman is the Devil" is the perfect example of this, the song drives through you like a freight train through a house cat right before the hellish chunk of a NYHC style breakdown shakes the song to pieces, but never losing it's "freight train" momentum. That is a very important element, because it is something that most "Deathcore" bands lack, the breakdown usually ruins a good slab of well-executed Death Metal, making it almost annoying (JFACB, I'm looking in your direction), but the boys in WDHR really know how to pull it off. Hey, for under $9.00 this is a nice little EP if you're interested in getting into these guys; it'll prepare you for "Expect Hell" which is just...well that's another review. :-) Submitted by hammersmashedface3 (Henderson, NV) Was This Review Helpful? Horror Grows Near album
$5.16 In the grander scope of things, there wasn't much time between the release of Thursday's Full Collapse and Calico System's The Duplicated Memory, and yet the latter seems to belong to some sort of school of screamo that the former had a big hand in creating. The ten songs on this album certainly ...

Horror Grows Near music CDs
$22.69 It may surprise some to find that Glenn Danzig turned 53 in 2008, but with a career that reaches back to the late '70s, including pioneering acts such as the Misfits and Samhain, he's been in the public eye for a long time. His greatest commercial success, however, has come with his namesake band, and with eight full-length albums to his credit, Danzig has left numerous quality ...

Horror Grows Near songs
$12.95 Recorded live at Gilman Street, Berkeley, California on June 14, 1996.
A live recording of a 1996 performance in Fifteen's hometown of Berkeley, CA, Allegra does a good job of capturing the punk band's stage energy and attitude. After a spoken, not-so-brief breakdown of a few local political issues, Jeff Ott and Fifteen lay into "Run II" and "Chris' Song." These are two of the finest numbers the group ever recorded and a fine way to start any Fifteen performance. Other highlights include "Ain't Life a Drag" and "Food Not Bombs." Every track features a tight performance that is equal or even superior ...
| | Ann Beretta Three Chord Revolution CD (2003)
Horror Grows Near album
$11.35 With Three Chord Revolution, Richmond, VA's own Ann Beretta may not live up to the promise of their fourth album's title, but the trio has concocted a fine, modern-day punk rock album just the same. Borrowing from influences like Rancid, Jawbreaker, and the Clash, the band gives fans of those icons little chance to turn away as the first critical seconds of "Not Invited" command one's attention with an upbeat, urgent force. The heartfelt power of "New Revolution" and "Built to Last" sustain that momentum, although frontman Rob Huddleston's commitment to a positive outlook on the aforementioned and heartbreak on tunes like "Lipstick & Make Up" and "Lost in You" has taken over where AB's earlier records often chronicled angst. Even on "Angry All the Time," Huddleston barely sounds miffed, making one wonder if he's just taking the piss. But even if the world has gotten a little brighter for the Ann Beretta mouthpiece, the band's music rarely sags as it unloads a dozen sonic shots that -- while hardly revolutionary ...

| | Mckay, Chris & The Critical Darlings C'Mon, Accept Your Joy CD (2007)
Horror Grows Near music CDs
$9.35 C'mon, Accept Your Joy! was, according to Chris McKay, painstakingly recorded and mastered. "Some of these songs are holdovers from the other bands I was in," says McKay. "That's the beauty of the Critical Darlings. These guys wanted to go through everything I've ever done and pick their favorites. So that's refreshing to have guys that are into what you do and don't have to put their foot down and insist that every song be a band original." During this process, the group repeatedly crashed the hard drive of local studio Downtown Athens Recording Company and actually went through the mastering process a full two times before being happy with what transpired. McKay says he's been accused of perfectionism before, but that the label just doesn't fit. "I get tired of people calling me a perfectionist," ...
