El Musico Y El Poeta album
$7.69 Raul Di Blasio's tribute to one of the most popular proponents of the Argentine tango is an emotional valentine to one of his musical heroes, perhaps overly respectful and just a bit too evocative for its own good. The arrangements are lush and clever, though a few have too many synthetic instruments for their own good. Di Blasio's shines on "Volver" and "Cuesta Abajo," his intricate piano figures dramatically conveying the majesty and grandeur of the tango for the modern audiences -- either overly familiar with the form, or not at all. He also ...

No Doubt continues its platinum success with ROCK STEADY, led by the undeniably adorable Gwen Stefani. Besides being a wonderfully charismatic front woman, Gwen's cute quotient is so high you can't help but like this band. While the group's last release, RETURN OF SATURN was more introspective and had a slightly more pop-oriented approach, STEADY returns the group to their roots sound of reggae and ska, while still mixing in a pop/rock feel. "Hey Baby", the first single, has an irresistible sing-along charm (including a rap by Bounty Killer) that makes it a natural for radio p

| | Kevin K Perfect Sin CD (2005)
El Musico Y El Poeta CD music
$9.35 Remember Let's Active? Shortly after Mitch Easter first gained buzz as the hot producer of the new jangle pop South courtesy of R.E.M.'s first three albums, the diminutive producer's own band, the resolutely adorable Let's Active, got its own I.R.S. Records contract, whereupon Easter released three albums and an EP featuring his peculiarly airy, winsome vocal style. Mitch Easter was, at the time, the only singer on the college rock scene who could make his old songwriting partner Chris Stamey sound gruff. And the little-known Florida-based singer/songwriter Kevin K is an absolute vocal dead ringer for him. Unlike Easter, however, Kevin K has little time for twee, jangly pop tunes: his backing band, a trio of French punques called the Real Kool Kats, favor ripping 1970s-style punk, like a rockabilly-fired Gallic Ramones. ("Hey Is Dee Dee Home?" makes the connection clear, as does the rather more on the nose "I Want Some Drugs.") As a result, there's an odd but appealing tension to Perfect Sin, between the sweetness and light of Kevin K's vocal style and the punky darkness of the tunes. It's a bracing combination overall, and any album that finishes with ...

El Musico Y El Poeta music CDs
$37.25 While Black Sabbath's 1972 release VOL. 4 didn't contain a renowned heavy metal anthem as PARANOID's title track, "Iron Man," or MASTER OF REALITY's "Sweet Leaf" and "Children of the Grave," for example, it was far from a lackluster effort. VOL. 4 is a consistent, complete album that contains many of Sabbath's most underrated and often-overlooked compositions. Based on the inspired performances throughout the album, you'd never know that the band has considered the writing/recording of VOL. 4 to be its most out-of-control and drug-heavy period.
A pair of long and winding epics open and close VOL. 4.: "Wheels ...
