Voz En La Argentina album
$8.59 EASY DOES IT is a 25-track collection from laid-back pop singer Andy Williams.
Easy Does It is a single-disc compilation of Andy Williams' time at Cadence Records in the late '50s and early '60s. In that sense, this U.K. release is quite similar to the U.S. anthology on Varese Sarabande, 25 All-Time Greatest Hits: 1956-61: The Cadence Years. They're not exactly the same, however, though they're roughly of equal quality, since ...
| | My Favorite Things/Joni James Sings The Gershwins CD (2003)
Voz En La Argentina CD music
$13.85 This two-fer gathers a pair of Joni James' (vocals) titles from her early-'60s cache of long-players for MGM. Both albums are songbooks featuring pop standards by Richard Rodgers, Lorenz Hart, and Oscar Hammerstein II -- on My Favorite Things as well as, appropriately enough, Ira Gershwin and George Gershwin on Joni James Sings the Gershwins. Both recordings respectively offer a dozen sides from the composers/lyricists' expansive catalogs, much in the same fashion that Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan had each done with comparatively successful results. These titles also reveal James' considerably jazzier inflections and capabilities. By the time these discs were initially issued (circa 1963-1964), James had already been established as a successfully critical as well as popular vocalist whose style defied category. As the pop-music horizon began to once again shift in the early '60s, James likewise kept up with the trends. My Favorite Things (1963) features accompaniment by Paul Smith (piano), who leads his quintet through some fresh arrangements of a handful of standards in much the same vein as he had done with Fitzgerald on the vast majority of her celebrated songbooks in the mid-'50s on Verve. Smith provides some syncopated and well-developed interjections and counterpoint to James' luminous and expressive vocals. While each performance garners respective merit, there are a handful that truly define the essence of the effort. Among the stellar interpretations are ...
| | Bwana If If CD (1970)
Voz En La Argentina music CDs
$11.39 If's first album came out in the summer of 1970, while most horn-driven jazz-rock bands were still mimicking the successful formula employed by Chicago and Blood, Sweat & Tears. If was different, with more of a jazz feel on both the instrumental and the vocal ends. The material on If provides plenty of room for reedmen Dave Quincy and Dick Morrissey, plus guitarist Terry Smith, to stretch out. Though not particularly deep or profound, the lyrics nonetheless express the positive, optimistic sentiments prevalent at the time. J.W. Hodgkinson's unusual tenor vocal timbre fits like a lead instrument in the mix, soaring above and within the arrangements. "What Can a Friend Say" kicks the album off in fine style, setting the parameters within which the band works throughout the rest of the disc, with the horns complementing Hodgkinson's rendering of the verses, which wrap around excellent, extended sax and guitar solos. The instrumental "What Did I Say About the Box, Jack?" showcases Morrissey's high-octane flute work and the speedy fingers of guitarist Smith. The album continues in the same consistently excellent vein, with the ballad "Dockland" providing a beautiful respite toward the end of the album. ~ Jim Newsom
The three core members of IF met during the summer of 2003 at the Stone Tavern, a local Hollywood bar. Lance Sanders (vocals/guitar/keys) was so amazed by the musical performance, that following the show he introduced himself to the eclectic drum and bass duet, known as Ninja Academy. Ninja Academy featuring Joey Maramba (bass) and Rob Shaffer (drums). The initial conversation ...
