| | Rabbitt Croak & A Grunt In The Night CD Rabbitt Discography of CDs
(3 Customer Reviews)
Rabbitt were seen as being South Africa's equivalent of the Beatles in The seventies and in fact the band actually outsold the Beatles, which in this day and age seems incredible. A long sought after and highly collectable recording, remastered on CD for the first time.
Rabbitt: Duncan Faure, Trevor Rabin, Neil Cloud, Ronnie Robot.

About what I said... of the cover of the album, commentarily speaking, I meant to ask "Who Cares?" Just help yourself and enjoy the music, will ya? :) P.S.
More of a garage feel all around the music, looking back. Like I said, you'll learn something. Submitted by eugene.dorsey (South Saturn Delta, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A GEM NEEDED TO BE UNEARTHED IN NORTH AMERICA! My father was once a disk jockey and he was in a club where he would get free records(or something like that). He ended up having a few albums of artists of which he had no clue. I, like a curious child that I was at the time, would always look into his library and one of the records that stuck in my head to a day later was "a Croak and a Grunt in the Night" by Rabbitt. It wasn't until I realized that the guy on the front cover was Trevor Rabin! I took a brief listen and "schumann" and "Hold on to Love" reall enthralled me. Though I learned that Trevor was with Yes, I did some research on the web. He was involved with other South African rock groups(did I just mention South African?) After recording "Croak", they planned to tour America after scoring high in their homeland and Europe. It wasn't to be due to pressures politically and within the band. Rabin broke away for a solo carreer and later joined Yes. Back to the subject at hand, the overall cover did give me a funny feeling for a while. I didn't pay any mind(I figured that it could be for teenybopper appeal with a homoerotic undertones or the other way around. Who knows?). The point is that this album should be released again in North america, as I speak because I have the only vinyl copy left on this Earth! The music is far from bland. It does range from the Beatles to Elton John. Take, for example, "Everybody's Cheating" and adhere to its lush production. It does give a warm feeling. "Working for the People" does have a political undertone(later remade by th Bay City Rollers), but not compared to "Sugar Pie" IMO. The title is a little misleading for good reason. Hence the lyrics: "You broke my heart/I have to break you/'cos I love you". The song begins like a prog melody but the goes into garage-rock heaven. "Dingley's Bookshop" is not a fictitious number as one might think. It is actually a theme for a sitcom of the same name. "Never Gonna ruin my Life" a rollicking instrumental equipped with strings, courtesy of Rabin. "Tribal Fence" starts off as a goofy disco number of sorts, but then gets to the nitty gritty based on the good ole credo of "we are one" A pleasant remake, believe it or not(I'm hoping to hear the original) "A Gift of Love" is a fittng title for a fittng song. It could be a romantic ballad for a girl or for God. What's the difference? Without spoiling it for all, I like to part with the ending lyric from "A Love You Song":"...the band sung altogether/that loving you is easy and enchanting. Go get a copy yourself. You'll learn something. Submitted by South African Prog Rock fan to be (South Saturn Delta, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
