 Good 80's Synth Pop
I was a bit aprehensive when Nick Beggs took over vocals (replacing Limahl, from the first album). But his vocal capabilities, along with great music writing made for a fantastic album. I have to say I almost like this better than the first CD. Lions Mouth, Turn Your Back On Me, and On a Plane are filled with great melodies and a wide range of instruments. But a real selling point for me was the former B-Sides, Pump Rooms of Bath, and Garden. Both instrumentals, but some of the best writing I have ever heard. Again, the variety of instruments and style is amazing. And to have these mixes on CD is a real pleasure. If you liked 80's synth pop, this one stands up to the test of time. With so many different instruments I think the sound could be from any era.

 A worthy follow up
Even though singer Limahl had jumped ship after the first album, Kajagoogoo bravely continued and released their finest album. Islands has of course the usual hits in the form of Big Apple and The Lion's Mouth that feature bass player Nick Beggs taking over the vocal duties(often sounding like Limahl). However it was the album other cuts that really grabbed me. On A Plane,Melting The Ice Away,Part Of Me Is You and the title track have a slightly jazzy feel to them that is far better than their previous album.
