| | Very Best Of Stealers Wheel CD Stealers Wheel Discography of CDs
This is a handy little volume to have: 18 songs drawn from the group's three albums, remastered fairly late so the sound is decent if not spectacular, and concisely annotated, with a discography (with full instrumental credits) -- and it's mid-priced as well. The selection is excellent, touching every necessary base, from "Stuck in the Middle with You" on down. It's eerie (and a mark of the members' professionalism) to listen to the material here and realize that the group was in a state of complete lineup and personal disarray for much of the time they were working on any of it. ~ Bruce Eder

Very Best Of Stealers Wheel album
$10.45 THE BEST OF THE MOODY BLUES contains vintage photographs and a conversation with Justin Hayward.
Recorded between 1964 and 1988. Includes liner notes by John Reed.
By keeping it simple and sticking to the hits, this collection successfully relates the story of this pioneering band. The Moody Blues began as a Gerry & the Pacemakers-like, R&B-influenced band fronted by sad-voiced singer Denny Laine, who is heard here on "Go Now." Laine was replaced by Justin Hayward, keyboardist Mike Pinder brought in a Mellotron, and the band hooked up with the London Symphony Orchestra to make the first ...
| | Very Best Of Deep Purple CD (2000)
Very Best Of Stealers Wheel CD music
$7.79 Digitally remastered by Dan Hersch and Bill Inglot (DigiPrep).
Rhino Records first attracted notice for its ability to assemble good, well-thought-out, best-of and greatest-hits compilations of acts who had enjoyed a chart placement (or two) without ever getting a proper hits package from their own labels; a little later Rhino started their "Very Best Of" series, which managed to be medium-weight but pretty thorough overviews of a lot of major acts (especially in R&B) from the past that needed a fresh look. But in 2000, when they released The Very Best of Deep Purple -- a band that needed no helping hand in the exposure area -- in conjunction with Warner Archives, that was something new for the company. And damned if Deep Purple and their fans, casual or serious, didn't benefit stunningly from Rhino's usual excellence on this CD. For one thing -- and this is pretty amazing -- this disc, with nearly 80-minutes of music, was the most thorough and thoughtful overview of the band's work ever released in the United States; EMI may have come close in England with Singles A's & B's but the sound here is better, to put it mildly. It's not just ...

Very Best Of Stealers Wheel music CDs

Don't hate Tim McGraw because he's married to one of the most glamorous women in contemporary country music (Faith Hill). Don't hate him because he wears a ten-gallon hat and sings about "The Cowboy In Me" while utilizing more image consultants than a Vogue fashion shoot. Hate him because he's so damn good at what he does. Whether you're an old-school country traditionalist or a card-carrying McGraw disciple, you ...

The title says it all: Although not steeped in heavy metal riffs or gothic sound effects, this 1976 effort from Grand Funk Railroad creates a mood gloomy enough to rival the darkest moments of Black Sabbath. By this point in their career, the band was feeling run into the ground and this is reflected in the mood of the lyrics: the title track is mournful rumination on the inevitability ...
