$13.09 Philadelphia jazz singer Lou Lanza had an excellent point when he asserted that jazz improvisers who ignore rock and R&B songs "are cutting themselves off from a lot of worthwhile material." Lanza wasn't suggesting that jazz artists should totally give up the Tin Pan Alley standards they've been performing all these years -- actually, he's done plenty of Cole Porter and Irving Berlin gems himself -- but ...

Champs CD music
$13.45 Danney Alkana BiographyDanney Alkana, a skilled guitar player from Southern California, put down his axe "forever" in 1981, when his band Excalibur broke up. The band had enjoyed strong regional album sales, and sold out shows for several years from L.A. to San Diego. However, frustrated by exploitative management and a lack of national success, they finally called it quits. Fourteen years go by, and a still bitter Alkana is working part time in a music store. An old fan visits the shop one day, and begs him to please play some of the Excalibur hits on guitar. Danney reluctantly obliges, and wonderfully, a rekindling of his love of making music is reborn. Brought together with Lee Smith from Four Winds Records, Alkana is encouraged to record a totally unique and demanding project... a rock set of songs by classical composers. The result is Rock the Bach; an amazing ten tracks that will lift your spirits, blending virtuoso guitar with the time tested melodies and intricate orchestration of Beethoven, Mozart, Vivaldi, Bach, and more. The multi talented Alkana produces the album, and also provides all the instrumentation, mixing his guitars with an electric orchestra ranging from synthesized woodwinds and brass to strings, pipe organ, and drums. A classical music lover, and musician from a young age, Danney sees the Baroque period of composing as a heavy influence on his music. He is inspired by all aspects of that time... "I started playing ...
| | Lucy Kaplansky Every Single Day CD (2001)
Champs music CDs
$14.65 Lucy Kaplansky is a talented songwriter and a delightful singer who suffers somewhat from one or two of the afflictions that are endemic to modern folk-rock singer/songwriters -- chief among them Irritating Vowel Syndrome, which can cause one to pronounce "sky" as "skeh-ee" and "heart" as if one had grown up in Maine. (Kaplansky seems to have caught this disease from Dar Williams, with whom she sometimes collaborates and who is in its advanced stages.) Those tendencies are easy to ignore on this gorgeous album, though, which floats deliriously ...
| | KELLI*SAID Lets Get This On CD (2005)
Champs songs
$10.09 So how did we begin?Us two kids, Kelli & Keith formed the band in Winter of 2001. We both shared such a history and love for music that the only obvious outlet was to start creating songs together. We began writing tunes full of feelings and emotions brought on by past memories, current situations and hopes for the future. We thank all the past and present local and national musicians that influenced us. Without the pioneers, we wouldn't be here! How did we go public? The excitement & encouragement from our families and friends inspired us to take this passion for song-writing & self record our first CD 'Ear Candy'. There were two reasons for this recording: The first, to see what response we would get from the public. The second, to find and form a band that blended like personalities, talents and goals. 'Ear Candy' also gave other musicians an idea of who we were and what stylistic direction we were headed in. Once we became a foursome, we self recorded a second CD, appropriately titled "This is a Demonstration". We felt the need to give local club owners and fans an idea of what we sounded like live. The word was out and the public began to take notice. Where have we played? With the additions of Dazz and G, we've had the pleasure and opportunity to play with a lot of great bands in many great venues around the Denver/Front range area. Well known establishments such as The Soiled Dove, Herman's Hideaway, the historical Gothic Theatre, and most recently performing at an outdoor event with DaDa. We continue ...

$48.25 Animation is the third solo album by Jon Anderson, and it shows both hearkenings to the other two and a new energy and direction. When he recorded the first album, Olias of Sunhillow, he was a member of Yes. That album has a strong progressive rock texture, being composed of longer pieces that all weave into one conceptual piece. It is also important to note that that release is a true "solo" work, Anderson ...
