Representative of the transition between late-1970s funk and the smooth R&B that came to dominate '80s pop radio, Frankie Beverly's Maze is rightfully recognized as an important band in the genre. Greatest Hits songs This 2004 compilation brings together 18 of Maze's finest moments, ranging from 1979's bass-popping jam "Workin' Together" to the silky, Quiet Storm vibe of 1993's "The Morning After." In between is more than a decade's worth of accessible soul, including lock-step funk ("Running Away"), slow-pulse love balladry ("Never Let You Down"), and lounge-ready mid-tempo grooves ("We Are One"). Greatest Hits album Leader, songwriter, and singer Frankie Beverly is the focus here, and his smooth-as-butter croon, complete with emotive R&B embellishments, shines throughout. Though influenced by such '70s acts as Funkadelic, Smokey Robinson, and Marvin Gaye (Gaye, incidentally, helped Maze get its professional start), the music of Beverly and company is undeniably '80s, dominated by synthesizer, polished production, and a post-disco dance sensibility (as on the strong cut "Back in Stride").   ...See Full Description

Great Music!!
My wife gave me this cd for Christmas and I play it everday-not joke. I didn't realize that I liked so many Maze and Frankie Beverly songs.

the best of the best
I've been a Frankie Beverly and Maze fan since they began, and this compilation is one of the best I've seen. Lots of songs that tug in familiar places, plenty of danceable ones to get and keep you going. Well-paced and leaves you wanting more. I give it more than the five stars available, because when good music like this is about, I want to let the world know about it. Pick it up, you'll love how you feel as you listen! I just saw them in concert last weekend
I listen to this double CD at least once a week. They just left Augusta with Gerald Levertt, great show. I've listen to my double CD everyday since the show.

It's summer time!!
I agree with each review mention before hand. This cd set the mood for signficant other, family and friend hangout. Its the lyrics that touches the soul and the music that causes the groove. It is one of my pump-me-up cds. Awesome definitely describes this cd. Thank you!!
