The sequel to Eddie Murphy's smash hit family comedy, DR DOLITTLE, will certainly not disappoint fans of the first film. Murphy returns as the doctor, who has now garnered some measure of fame for his communication abilities, at least among the animal kingdom. Dolittle is also dealing with his rebellious teenage daughter (Raven Symone). But he drops everything when he's summoned by "The Beaver," the Godfather figure of the local forest, to help the animals preserve their home by stopping an overly aggressive lumber company. To save the forest, Dolittle has to take a trained performing bear (also an endangered species, who is endearingly voiced by Steve Zahn)--and introduce him to the wild to find a mate. Zahn's bear, who would rather star on Broadway than hibernate in the woods, is the comedic heart of the film, but there's an entertaining array of colorful animal characters, including Lucky the dog (Norm Macdonald reprising his role from the first film) and Pepito (Jacob Vargas), a chameleon who can't quite seem to blend in. Director Steve Carr (NEXT FRIDAY) keeps things light and lively, creating another surefire hit for Murphy and his animal crew. Dr. Dolittle 2 Reviews: "...In its heart, this is a romantic movie..."
-- Mike Clark, USA Today "...DR. DOLITTLE 2 has all the symptoms of a sure-fire smash hit. With Eddie Murphy once again in fine form....He's ingratiating and extremely amusing..."
-- Joe Leydon, Variety "...DR. DOLITTLE 2 swerves happily and unexpectedly into old-fashioned power to the people (I mean, animals) social realism....DR. DOLITTLE 2 offers benign Darwinian amusement for young animal lovers..."
-- A. O. Scott, New York Times "...The broad, slightly salty nature of the humour marks a refreshing change from the anodyne comedy of so many children's movies....[Murphy's] performance is a quiet marvel..."
-- Edward Lawrenson, Sight and Sound "...The film boasts an impressive roster of voice talent..."-- Neil Smith, Total Film "...[The film] features an engaging performance by the continually remarkable Murphy..."

| | Keith Urban CD (1999)
Dr. Dolittle 2 review
$10.15 "Rollercoaster" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Country Instrumental Performance.
Keith Urban is Australian, but listening to his debut self-titled solo CD, you'd swear he was raised somewhere south of the Mason-Dixon line. Just as the Beatles mimicked the American accents of their musical heroes, Urban, the former leader of the group the Ranch, adopts the twang of the country stars he heard growing up Down Under. Urban's brand of country includes soulful vocals; a nice mix of acoustic and steel guitars, banjo, fiddles, and mandolins; and some fine songwriting, from Urban, Steve Wariner, and even two former members of the Go-Gos's (!) The subject here, with few exceptions, is love in all its aspects, from the hooky opening cut, "It's a Love Thing," to the gorgeous ballad "Your Everything," to the Cajun stomp of "I Wanna Be Your Man (Forever)." Urban's excellent guitar playing throughout the CD is tasteful and understated, but adds immeasurably to the arrangements. When he really cuts loose, on the instrumental "Rollercoaster," you can hear why acts like the Dixie Chicks and Garth Brooks tapped him to play on their CDs. Overall, KEITH URBAN offers a taste of what this talented singer, songwriter, and guitarist might do in the future.
Principally recorded at Javelina Recording Studios, Nashville, Tennessee.

| | Very Best Of Tracy Lawrence CD (2007)
Dr. Dolittle 2 video
$11.05 Starting with 1991's STICKS AND STONES, Texan Tracy Lawrence has taken up the mantle of honky tonk for a new generation of country artists. As Nashville has moved further towards pop and rock influences, Lawrence's fierce traditionalism has caused him to be squeezed out of the picture a bit; Lawrence has been without a major label contract since 2004. Rhino's excellent THE VERY BEST OF TRACY LAWRENCE is a 21-track précis of that 13-year period, picking tracks from all of his Atlantic and Warner Brothers albums to paint a picture of Lawrence as the modern heir to the likes of Ray Price and Lefty Frizell: a honky-tonker who knows his way around a tear-stained ballad as well. The well-chosen selection contains all of Lawrence's biggest singles, including all seven of his number-one hits.
