| | Day The Earth Stood Still DVD (1951)
Alexander The Great review
$9.69 Beginning with a documentary style that immediately hooks the viewer, THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, based on the Harry Bates short story "Farewell to the Master," becomes as much a human interest story as it does a sci-fi B-movie classic. The film soberly depicts the arrival of an alien dignitary, Klaatu (Michael Rennie), who has come to earth with his deadly robot, Gort (Lock Martin), to deliver the message that earthlings must stop warring among themselves--or else. After being shot at by ignorant, panicky military guards, Klaatu is brought to a Washington, D.C., hospital, where he begs a sympathetic but frank Major White (Robert Osterloh) to gather all the world's leaders so he can tell them more specifically what he has come 250 million miles to warn them about. Losing patience, Klaatu slips into the human world, adapting a false identity and living at a boarding house where he meets a smart woman ...

Alexander The Great movie DVD
$9.69 John Ford's memorable screen version of John Steinbeck's epic novel of the Great Depression--often regarded as the director's best film--stars Henry Fonda as Tom Joad. After having served a brief prison sentence for manslaughter, Joad arrives at his family's Oklahoma farm only to find it abandoned. Muley (John Qualen), a neighbor now nearly mad with grief, tells Tom of the drought that has transformed the farmland of Oklahoma into a desert and of the preying land agents who have plowed under the shacks of the sharecroppers. Joined by former hellfire preacher Casy (John Carradine), Tom finds his extended family, including Pa (Charles Grapewin) and his indomitable Ma (Jane Darwell), packing their ramshackle truck to seek work in the fields of California. As the family treks across the country, their dissolution begins with the deaths of Tom's grandparents at close intervals. When they arrive in California, the Joads find only an abundance of poverty-stricken migrants like themselves and little in the way of potential work. Yet, ever resilient, they maintain their dignity, hoping for the best.

| | Helen Of Troy DVD (1955) Widescreen
Alexander The Great video
$15.45 A lavishly filmed epic about the Trojan War based on Homer's ILIAD, Robert Wise's HELEN OF TROY depicts the tale of the famed Helen (Rossana Podesta), the woman responsible for the battle. Young Trojan prince Paris (Jacques Sernas) journeys to Sparta, hoping to bring home a peace treaty that will end the war between Greece and Troy. However, his ship is forced to return to Troy in a storm after he has been swept overboard. Washing up on Sparta's shore, he is found by the beautiful Helen, with whom he falls head-over-heels in love, completely unaware that she is the queen of Sparta. At the palace he finds Greek king and Helen's husband Menelaus (Niall MacGinnis), Agamemnon (Robert Douglas), Ulysses (Torin Thatcher), Achilles (Stanley Baker), and others debating whether to go to war with Troy. Menelaus sees that Helen and Paris are in love and, pretending friendship, ...

Alexander The Great movie DVD
$5.75 Self-made celebrity and outlaw of gross-out comedy, Tom Green (of MTV's TOM GREEN SHOW) makes the leap to the big screen with the outrageous semi-autobiographical FREDDY GOT FINGERED. Starring as Gord Brody, a slacker fast-approaching 30, yet still living in his father's basement, Green is his usual obtusely hilarious, polymorphously perverse self. Physical comedy ascends to the realm of extreme performance art as Brody's unachievable lifelong dream ...

$9.69 The sequel to Eddie Murphy's smash hit family comedy, DR DOLITTLE, will certainly not disappoint fans of the first film. Dolittle is also dealing with his rebellious teenage daughter (Raven Symone). But he drops everything when he's summoned by "The Beaver," the Godfather figure of the local forest, to help the animals preserve their home by stopping an overly aggressive lumber company. To save the forest, Dolittle has to take a trained ...

| | Ashanti - Princess Of Hip Hop DVD (2004)
Alexander The Great review
$10.19 Ashanti was first discovered by her mother as she sang while doing chores at the tender age of 12. Recognizing her talent, Ashanti's mother took the blossoming star to Jive Records, with whom she signed a contract at the age of 14. When the hip hop princess--who writes all her own songs--subsequently signed to Murder Inc., the first three songs she released on the label made it to the top 10 of Billboard's Hot 100. She has worked with many hip hop ...

Alexander The Great DVD
$10.29 Joaquin Phoenix is great in this saga of Baltimore firefighter Jack Morrison, whose life starts flashing before his eyes when he becomes trapped in a blazing high rise. Flashbacks chronicle his memories of being a rookie at his Baltimore fire company. He remembers fighting his first fire, bonding with fellow firefighters, falling in love with a beautiful local girl (Jacinda Barrett), getting married, and having children. He also looks back on forming a close relationship with the fire chief (John Travolta) and learning to face the danger and heroics of life on the job. This film manages to wring plenty of well-earned tears from its subject matter--as well as spine-tingling thrills--which are the result of solid performances, characterization, ...
