Having served as a beat-maker for some of reggaeton's best-known artists, Eliel stands beside Noriega and Luny Tunes as one of the most in-demand producers on the scene. Ten years after the New Orleans super-group TRU (comprised of Master P, Sillk the Shocker, and C-Murder) smashed the world with their sophomore album, TRU 2 DA GAME, the monumental double CD returns in this re-issue from EMI. TRU 2 DA GAME features a number of No Limit favorites including the 7-minute posse cut, "No Limit Soldiers," as well as the crew's paranoid shout to Rockwell on "I Always Feel Like." Mia X, Kane & Abel, Mo B. Dick, Big Ed, and Serv-On all make cameos. This is a Dirty South classic and a must-have for fans of the genre.
Tru 2 Da Game is fairly standard hardcore gangsta rap, intercut with just a touch of deep, funky bass grooves. Tru doesn't have any particularly noteworthy rhyming skills, and the music is predictable, yet their workmanlike gangsta rap makes for a worthwhile set for aficionados. ~ Leo Stanley
This double-disc set opens with a father talking to his son about staying "true to the game." The gangsta game, that is, and the Game of Life, lived by the Code of the Streets. What follows is track after track of extreme gangsta rap, replete with continual obscenities, references to drugs, violence, and everything else that stays "true" to that well-know formula (In other words, Tru is not for the kiddies).
