| | Saliva Survival Of The Sickest CD Saliva Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
On SURVIVAL OF THE SICKEST, Saliva largely forgoes the rap-metal and post-grunge sounds that characterized the group's previous albums in favor of an old-school, Southern rock-informed brand of blazing power metal. The riffs are simpler, the melodies catchier, and the lyrical sentiments more up-front than ever before, making for a particularly bracing listen. On "Rock & Roll Revolution" and the title track, Saliva sounds like a combination of early Metallica and Lynyrd Skynyrd, but with the celebratory spirit of classic Kiss. "Open Eyes," on the other hand, is a straight-up power ballad of the sort that would make Poison and Ratt proud. Throughout, the band sounds like it's having a great time, repeatedly skewering record-industry phonies while proving that hard rock remains as vital as ever.
Saliva: Josey Scott (vocals, acoustic guitar, percussion); Wayne Swinny, Chris D'Abaldo (guitar, background vocals); Dave Novotny (bass guitar); Paul Crosby (drums).
Additional personnel: Paul Ebersold (strings, keyboards, programming); Scott Hardin (piano, background vocals); Jackie Johnson, Brad Arnold (background vocals).

Survival Of The Sickest album
$11.39 "Your Disease" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance.
While this hard-rocking quintet churns out gut-crunching guitar riffs capable of giving Korn or Limp Bizkit a run for their money, EVERY SIX SECONDS isn't a gravy train-riding rap-metal endeavor. From the sound of things, Saliva has learned a thing or two from the ominous, minor-key melodies of '90s grunge-related acts like Alice In Chains and the instantly accessible hooks of poppier types such as Collective Soul.
While much of the album is spent at an intensity level of 11, there are moments (particularly the reflective "Hollywood") of relative melodic respite. Saliva sounds fully capable of pinning back the ears of any teenage ...

Survival Of The Sickest CD music
$15.65 Nickleback's sixth album doesn't stake out new ground, but this Canadian post-grunge quartet is known for their allegiance to old-school hard rock values. That allegiance is borne out on 2008's DARK HORSE, a collection of riff-driven rockers and power ballads that thrives on simple chord progressions, ...

Survival Of The Sickest songs
$17.59 Anyone familiar with the industrial-metal band's dark sense of irony should take one look at the title of Rammstein's 2009 album LIEBE IST FUR ALLE DA ("Love Is There For Everyone") and conclude that this one is a mean monster. Combining the tightness and punch of their 1998 album SEHNSUCHT with the musicianship and elaborate textures of their later work, LIEBE IST is a grand achievement, skillfully dividing its time between razor sharp metal rockers like "B********" or the opening theme song "Rammlied" and nostalgic, cabaret pieces that conjure the spirits of Weil and Brecht at a goth club. Best of the latter is the naked and haunting closer "Roter Sand" but little touches of a sinister yesteryear are everywhere, like the fake vaudeville music in "Haifisch" or the soundtrack strings of "Wiener Blut" which are eventually overcome by a guitar crunching juggernaut. This strange mix of styles is more effective here than it has been for about a decade, and there's no threat of the album becoming ponderous either as the economical tracklist and purposeful songs wipe away the sins of their previous album, 2005's ROSENROT. The group's loyal fans have remained with them through the '00s and have braved all the difficult but ultimately rewarding efforts that came with it. To them, LIEBE IST FUR ALLE DA is the big payoff and an instant classic. For the rest of the world, ...
| | Kiss Sonic Boom CDs (2009)
Survival Of The Sickest album
$16.09 When SONIC BOOM was released, it had been over a decade since the last Kiss studio album, so expectations were understandably high. In addition, the intervening period had seen the band fire two of its founding members for the second time, only to replace them with sidemen wearing Ace Frehley and Peter Criss's iconic makeup. Luckily, the new additions, unlike some of Kiss's "un-masked years" members, have a good feel for classic Kiss. That fact, matched with Paul Stanley's assumption of production duties, makes SONIC BOOM one of the most consistent and thoroughly Kiss-sounding albums since the group's `70s heyday. That said, the New York City unit manages to branch out a bit; alongside very ROCK & ROLL OVER/LOVE GUN-esque tracks such as the Gene Simmons-sung rockers "Yes I Know (Nobody's Perfect)" and "Russian Roulette," sit ambitious pieces such as "Stand," which employs a Motown-influenced chorus melody, sophisticated arrangement, and Beach Boys-style harmonies, and "All For the Glory" and "Lightning Strikes," which are vocal showcases from new guys Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer (respectively). Interestingly, both Singer's rasp and Thayer's slightly off-kilter delivery are highly reminiscent of their famous predecessors, which further contributes to the album's distinct Kiss-ness. Overall, though the record ...
