| | MTV2 Headbangers Ball, Volume 2 CD (4 Customer Reviews)
This second installment of MTV's HEADBANGERS BALL compilation series features a daunting 40 tracks that splinter off into numerous jagged branches of the metal tree circa 2004. Iowan ensemble Slipknot kicks things off with the riff-loaded yet surprisingly melodic "Duality," revealing (along with their peers Korn) that the rap aspect of nu metal has essentially been buried. The metal-core sub-genre makes a strong showing with tracks by Killswitch Engage ("Rose of Sharyn") and Eighteen Visions ("Waiting for the Heavens"), while European acts are well represented by the glam-goth of Finland's HIM ("Your Sweet Six Six Six") and the dynamic attack of the Swedish band In Flames ("The Quiet Place"). Elsewhere, Megadeth's Dave Mustaine shows the youngsters how it's done on his band's blistering "Kick the Chair." The true highlight of the double-disc set, however, is the Black Sabbath-inspired "My Tortured Soul," a rare live performance by Foo Fighter Dave Grohl's Probot project, featuring Trouble's Eric Wagner. Harking back to early-1980s metal, this song effectively provides a bridge from that era to the heavy rock of the 21st century.

| MTV2 Headbangers Ball, Volume 2 Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) Great Collection Of Songs This Double Disc of Headbangers Ball Is Incredible. It Has almost all of the songs from this past years shows. My Only Comlaint is they did not include Iron Maiden's Wildest Dreams or Rainmaker which were barley shown on the ball and either one of them were both worthy of being on this collection so check them out to, overall it kicks major A**!!! awesome...collection This album ....is too damn good ...from the moment go...slipknot n korn remind us what we love so much about heavy metal.there are softer tracks like apc's "weak and powerless"
just to sooth the nerves...but then again it gets going again....old timers like megadeth n black label society are also featured remindin us about metal through the ages.....in 3 words this album is a must have for any metal freak everywhere Submitted by ClsRocks (Delhi,India) Was This Review Helpful? A very diverse mix What's good about it?
Disc 1: All the hard rock heavyweights flex their music muscle here. Chunky bass and guitar riffing dominates Korn's "Right Now". Megadeth (minus everyone but Mustaine) return from the dead with "Kick the Chair". Dave's miraculous recovery from a nerve damaged hand is apparent on the frantic opening riff. The speed metal days are over, but the heaviness and distain for politics remain. Drowning Pool's supercharged fighting anthem "Step Up" is sure to get your blood pumping. There's plenty of Pantera leftovers with Superjoint Ritual's "Waiting for the Turning Point" and Damageplan's "Breathing New Life". Newcomers Lamb of God are quite vicious on "Laid to Rest", while Kittie show you how sharp their claws are on "Into the Darkness".
Disc 2: I have to admit that I despise death metal and the like, but it would be unfair for me to dismiss disc 2 as crap. If you’re into blood-curling, snarling, angry vocal from the pits of hell and thunderous, piercing, teeth rattling guitars and rhythms, finished off with some of the darkest, evilest lyrics, they you will love disc 2. It's nothing but the best of death, black, and occult metal. I would like to point out that I actually liked Cradle of Filth's "Medusa and Hemlock". Dani Filth has finally decided to use his deep snarl over his high-pitched wail that sounds like a dying cat. The band is as good as ever. Hopefully it's a sign of what's to come. They haven't sold out, but I think they've found their balance. Also check out Ozzfest 2004 main stage act Dimmu Borgir on "Progenies Of The Great Apocalypse".
Anything bad?
Okay Fear Factory and Korn, it's time to try something new. You're latest songs sound like your last five albums. You've conquered that sound, now tweak it.
Bottom Line
Forty songs for around $15, you can't go wrong! A very diverse mix.

Amazing Collection of Metal!! This CD is probably the best collection of metal that I have ever heard. Now, I own some of these bands' current albums, like Slipknot, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, and so on, so I have heard many of these tracks before. However, it still doesn't detract from the quality of this album. The "lightest" track in the entire collection is, "Weak and Powerless" by APC, who are brilliant, anyways. I totally recommend this double CD. Submitted by KristopherDean (Savannah, GA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
