Most Fun You've Had All Decade: 80S album
$14.38 Glitter and Doom Live, a double-disc set, marks Tom Waits' third live effort in his nearly 40-year career, each one summing up his career to the point of its release. The first, Nighthawks at the Diner issued in 1975 on Asylum, is regarded by many as one of the greatest live albums of all time. The second was Big Time, released during his tenure at Island in 1986. The musical performances on disc one of Glitter and Doom Live were culled from Waits' historic sold-out tour of the U.S. and Europe. He compiled and sequenced the set himself, intending to make them sound like a single show. The material leans, understandably, on his recordings with the Anti label. There are stellar performances here, such as "Get Behind the Mule" from The Mule Variations, "Trampled Rose" from Real Gone, and a haunting version of Leadbelly's "Fannin Street" from Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers & Bastards, to mention just three of the 17 cuts here. But he goes back to his Island albums too. For instance, there are completely re-visioned readings of "Lucky Day" and "I'll Shoot the ...

$14.19 It's no secret that Sting is a serious man, so it's only logical that his holiday album -- his first new music since the Police reunion, not that it really matters -- is a serious endeavor, thank you. No niceties for him, no comforts of carols; ...

| | Rod Stewart Never A Dull Moment (Gold) CD (1972) Gold
Most Fun You've Had All Decade: 80S album
$19.10 NEVER A DULL MOMENT picks up where EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY left off. Here we have more raucous rock & roll with healthy dollops of soul and twang thrown in for good measure. Always looking for a good songwriter to cover, Stewart's honorees here include Jimi Hendrix ("Angel"), Dylan ("Mama You Been On My Mind"), and Rod's personal hero, Sam ...

| | Rod Stewart Smiler CD (1974)
Most Fun You've Had All Decade: 80S music CDs
$5.09 On SMILER, as per usual, Stewart's approach towards recording was to invite over a bunch of friends, get the spirits flowing and have a grand time laying down tracks. The gang included Elton John, who plays on his own "Let Me Be Your Car." Along with Reg's song, Stewart's other covers included a raucous "Sweet Little Rock 'N' Roller," a lovingly rendered Sam Cooke medley of "Bring It On Home To Me/You Send Me" and a reworking of Aretha Franklin's classic that reads as "(You ...
| | No Doubt Boom Box CDs (2003) Limited Edition; Box Set
Most Fun You've Had All Decade: 80S songs
$36.39 BOOM BOX is a limited edition deluxe set which includes THE SINGLES 1992-2003, EVERYTHING IN TIME a CD of remixes, B-sides and rare tracks, a DVD of music videos, and a DVD of LIVE IN THE TRAGIC KINGDOM.
Additional Personnel includes: Lady Saw, Bounty Killer, Ms. Dynamite, Sweetie Irie, Elvis Costello (vocals); Gabriel McNair (trombone, piano, keyboards); Stephen Bradley (trumpet, keyboards); Matthew Wilder (keyboards); Stuart Price, Sly Dunbar (programming).
No Doubt's strength has always been in its singles, from the band's early phase as a ska/punk-pop ensemble to their latter-day status as pop chart-toppers. The 15-song collection THE SINGLES features all of the band's hits, which are sequenced remarkably well. Gwen Stefani and the boys kick things off in an appropriately energetic fashion with their breakthrough single, "Just a Girl." The 1980s-influenced keyboard line of this jaunty track leads wonderfully into the group's deft cover of Talk Talk's '80s-pop classic "It's My Life," which ...
| | Brother Trucker Something Simple CD (2004)
Most Fun You've Had All Decade: 80S album
$12.89 Third time's a charm for Trucker boysBy KYLE MUNSONDes Moines Register Music Critic07/17/2003 How can the image of a weather-beaten chair leaning against a rural front porch be all that compelling, let alone signal a leap forward for an Iowa roots rock band? Because the chair in question is just the first of many vivid scenes that spill out of Brother Trucker's third CD, the deceptively titled "Something Simple."Singer, guitarist and primary songwriter Andy Fleming always has had a sharp eye for what makes the common Joe and Jane tick. Now he has developed an ear that hears exactly how his lyrics can best settle into each song's groove and showcase the riffs from childhood pal and lead guitarist Mike Fitzpatrick. That chair is the first image in the opening song, "Side By Side," quickly followed by a cooler swarming with fruit flies, dirty socks, muddy boots, a damaged screen door, etc. By the end of the song, the middle-aged married couple at the center of Fleming's miniature drama have come brilliantly to life, and it's impossible not ...
