| | Josie Kreuzer Beggin' Me Back CD (2002)
As Is
$12.35 Though not a far stretch from her previous two self-released albums, Josie Kreuzer's Beggin' Me Back offers a great collection of straight-ahead rockabilly songs, with perhaps her best backing ensemble yet. Leaning toward the boppin' side of country, all 12 of these originals have her patented cutesy approach, the come-hither breathy twang sprinkled with a dash of Wanda Jackson-type attitude. "Good Time Girl (& a Thunderstorm)" and "Gone Fishin'" are two of the many songs that showcase Kreuzer's witty lyricism and strong honky tonk feel, with plenty of references to fast cars and men who weren't up to snuff. "Remember to Remember to Forget" and "Beggin' Me Back" are as well written and performed as any old classic country. Thanks to the production ...

| | Paul McCartney Good Evening New York City CDs (2009) With DVD; Digipak
As Is
$15.98 Unlike its 2002 predecessor Back in the U.S., Good Evening New York City doesn't cherrypick highlights from a tour, it commemorates a specific event: the inauguration of Citi Field -- the replacement for the now-defunct Shea Stadium, where the Beatles played a legendary show in 1965 -- in the summer of 2009. The circumstances may be different -- different enough to lead to a Billy Joel cameo on "I Saw Her Standing There," the piano man returning a favor from Paul, who played at Billy's Shea-closing shows in 2008 -- and McCartney might have two strong albums of new material to draw upon, but as an album, Good Evening New York City plays a lot like Back in the U.S. ...

| | Curlew Paradise CD (1996)
As Is
$14.95 Although Curlew is customarily associated with the hip downtown NYC Knitting Factory scene, leader George Cartwright is a native Mississippian, and his compositions have always had a funky R&B feel to them. The band is clearly at the top of their game on this CD, playing inside and outside (and inside out), using Cartwright's catchy, riff-based tunes as the impetus for impressive flights of fancy, sailing into the free improv ozone while somehow simultaneously keeping at least one foot in the good earth. Over the years, Cartwright himself has become a formidable saxophonist, invoking Cannonball Adderley's soulful bop lyricism one moment, and Albert Ayler's wide, impassioned vibrato the next. He is also economical and typically leaves the listener wanting more, rather than spilling his guts on every solo. The other standout ...
| | Very Best Of Cat Stevens CD (2000) Germany
As Is
$13.95 ULTIMATE COLLECTION features 24 digtially remastered tracks by folksinger Cat Stevens, including "Moonshadow," "Morning Has Broken," and "Hard Headed Woman."
Before converting to Islam in 1978, the British-born Cat Stevens blazed the trail for the sensitive singer-songwriter movement that got its start in the earlier part of the decade. Containing both early and late representations of Stevens' impressive canon, VERY BEST OF surpasses the wildly popular GREATEST HITS collection that preceded it.
Starting with the more lushly orchestrated material of the late 60s ("Matthew & Son," "The First Cut Is The Deepest" which Rod Stewart turned into a mid-70s hit), this collection captures Stevens' transformation into an introspective artisan who succeeded with a unique brand of folk-pop. Moving from a rumored ode to actress Patti D'Arbanville ("Lady D'Arbanville" featuring flutist Peter Gabriel), ...
| | XTC Mummer CD (1983) Remastered
As Is
$11.59 Having fully settled into their retirement from touring, this was XTC's second album since leaving the stage for good. With none of the songs having developed in live performance, their studio inclinations were given full range to go where they might. MUMMER opens with the African rhythms of "Beating Of Hearts," with things then immediately turning intimate and pastoral as Colin Moulding's "Wonderland" drifts in like a falling leaf. Andy Partridge delivered a few novel takes on familiar themes of love and longing with "Love On a Farmboy's Wages" and "Great Fire." The album also ...
| | Chelsea Urban Kids: Punk Anthology CDs (2005) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
As Is
$17.15 Chelsea were a British punk band that seemed to fit stylistically somewhere between the socially conscious racket of the first wave of British punk (in the manner of the Clash and the Adverts) and the beer-fueled yob-centric street punk of later bands such as G.B.H. and the Exploited. There was always a sense of rabble-rousing purpose in Gene October's lyrics, long after dole-queue radicalism had fallen out of fashion, but the four-square punk stomp of his various backing bands over the years never boasted much in the way of invention or subtlety, and ...
