Released in 1994 in celebration of MGM's 70th anniversary, this film brings back to the screen the stars and musical numbers that have excited audiences for generations. The film incorporated scores of famous songs and dances from MGM films and reunites nine of the performers who rose to international stardom through their MGM association. Included are astonishing classic musical moments, great comedy and romantic teams, and rare footage with marvelous big-star scenes originally unseen because they were cut from the films. Gene Kelly opens and closes the film with hosts June Allyson, Cyd Charisse, Lena Horne, Howard Keel, Ann Miller, Debbie Reynolds, Mickey Rooney, more.
Picture Judy Garland in "Annie Get Your Gun" or Lena Horne in "Showboat". This film distinguishes itself from the previous two installments by featuring rare outtakes of great musical productions. Song and dance sequences were often cut from finished films to lessen the running time or on a producer's whim. These newly discovered snippets include Horne's delicious rendition of "Ain't it the Truth," which was cut from "Cabin in the Sky," and Cyd Charisse belting "Two Faced Woman", which was bumped from "The Band Wagon" so that Joan Crawford could perform it in another film -- in blackface! These lost gems, alternate song versions, and deleted dance numbers show what a favorite film might have been like.
Memorable musical moments from the Golden Age of MGM musicals, along with outtakes and never-before-seen footage of your favorite stars.
