Presenting both live and studio recordings, Pentangle's second album, SWEET CHILD, is considered by many to be the British folk group's finest offering. It's easy to hear why: all that makes the ensemble so great is on full display, from Jacqui McShee's resonant voice on the traditional "So Early in the Spring" to Bert Jansch and John Renbourn's snaky guitar lines on a dexterous reading of jazz legend Charles Mingus's "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" to Danny Thompson's vibrant bass playing on "Haitian Fight Song" (also a Mingus composition).
Although drummer Terry Cox's presence on some songs is minimal, he anchors the band masterfully, whether behind the kit or providing spare auxiliary percussion. Despite excellent contributions by Cox and McShee, the standout performances on SWEET CHILD are by Jansch, Renbourn, and Thompson, who showcase their virtuoso talents to fascinating effect on the tight-knit tapestry of "Three Part Thing." Few acts have mixed jazz and folk as deftly as Pentangle does on this record, easily making it a highlight of the group's catalogue.
Recorded between 1967 & 1968. Includes liner notes by Colin Irwin and Tony Wilson.
All tracks have been digitally remastered.
The Pentangle includes: Jacqui McShee (vocals); Bert Jansch, John Renbourn (acoustic guitar, background vocals); Terry Cox (glockenspiel, drums, background vocals); Danny Thompson (acoustic bass).

Sweet Child album
$8.05 Interestingly, Horn rarely takes a solo, but repeats the songs over and over, slightly changing the phrasing and continuously building on the piano to change the emphasis. Every cut is a masterpiece, but the stand out is the title cut. Drummer Steve Williams sets up a strange, repetitive quarter note pattern which sounds like a ticking clock over which Miles Davis' muted trumpet floats and ...
| | Shirley Horn I Remember Miles CD (1998)
Sweet Child CD music
$12.39 I REMEMBER MILES won the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Performance.
This stunning album is Shirley Horn's loving tribute to her friend and colleague, the legendary late Miles Davis. Davis was so taken by Horn's first album EMBERS AND ASHES that he forced The Village Vanguard to let her virtually-unknown trio open for him during his 1961 run there. Their friendship and admiration for each other's music lasted through the years, and Shirley Horn's 1991 recording YOU WON'T FORGET ME, was one of the last recordings Miles Davis made.
Horn selected mostly ballads from Davis' Columbia Records catalogue for her tribute because, as she explains in the liner notes, Davis liked her to sing ballads, and ballads are Horn's specialty. She can slow down time in a unique and spellbinding way. Her sultry and smoky vocals are intimate and conversational, relying on odd metered timing and silence, rather than volume, to make an emotional point.
This album's knock out punch is the epic (over 10 minutes long) "My Man's Gone Now" performed in an uncharacteristically (for Horn) abstract style with ...

Sweet Child music CDs
$24.45 In an era where it's not uncommon for a superstar act to wait three or four years between releases, it's astonishing to realize that Carole King wrote and recorded a strong follow-up to 1971's bazillion-selling TAPESTRY that was released before the year was up! MUSIC was a big commercial success, but anything would pale next ...

Sweet Child songs
$10.15 For decades, Genesis has been one of the strongest and most influential bands in rock history. With this in mind, Leon has crafted an album that captures both the essence of and transcends their music. Taking cues from Genesis' own remake of their hit "Carpet Crawlers," Leon has modernized another song from that same album titled "Hairless Heart." The end result was so successful that he developed it into a project. More than your average tribute album, "Leon Plays Genesis" also includes original material done in the various styles of Genesis' illustrious past.Prior to this project Leon made music for years, playing and recording with artists on two continents while continuing to hone his solo efforts.
