Although the original incarnation of Pentangle was together for only about five years, the revered British folk-rock band recorded an ample amount of material. This 2002 compilation cherry-picks 31 tracks from the ensemble's peak years of 1968-'71, resulting in a well-selected two-disc set.
For many folk fans, the initial appeal of Pentangle is hearing virtuoso guitarists Bert Jansch and John Renbourn perform together in a group context, and though their eclectic, often blues-tinged work is undeniably stunning (see their intricate six-string playing on Charles Mingus's "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat"), the duo is ably matched by the rest of the group. While Jacqui McShee lends her coolly beautiful voice to many of the band's songs, Pentangle's secret weapon is the rhythm section of bassist Danny Thompson and drummer Terry Cox, who step far outside the boundaries of folk, inventively pulling in jazz and rock rhythms to both anchor and propel the quintet's sound. Though many Pentangle collections have cluttered the market, LIGHT FLIGHT: THE ANTHOLOGY is arguably the finest available, since it provides an excellent overview for aficionados and an ideal introduction for newcomers.
Recorded between 1968 & 1971. Includes liner notes by Laurence Aston.
All tracks have been digitally remastered.
Pentangle: Jacquie McShee (vocals); Bert Jansch, John Renbourn (guitar); Danny Thompson (bass); Terry Cox (percussion).

Light Flight: The Anthology album
$18.39 LIVE IN JAPAN was recorded during the British blues guitarist's 1977 Japanese tour, and includes both Roy Buchanan originals and covers ranging from Larry Williams' "Slow Down" to Don Gibson's "Sweet Dreams."
Live in Japan (2003) is said to have been Roy Buchanan's favorite of all his platters, and ironically, it was never issued stateside. However, as word spread, the title became an essential addition to his discography. Fact is that it may have never come out at all, had there not been a loophole in Buchanan's contract with former label Polydor, giving them control over his non-North American output. Joining the guitarist for his 1977 tour of Japan are John Harrison (bass), Malcolm Lukens (keyboards), and Byrd Foster (drums/vocals). They are likewise ...

| | July CD (1968) (Import) United Kingdom
Light Flight: The Anthology album
$15.65 2008 expanded reissue of one of the most sought-after British Psychedelic '60s albums of all time. Originally released in 1968, the album's main appeal is its haunting brand of Psychedelia and Rev-Ola are delighted to announce that this special CD issue has four bonus tracks. The gorgeous package is also enhanced by a quantity of previously unpublished photographs and some highly-informative CD booklet notes by '60s Pop-sike expert David Wells. 16 tracks.
July has come to be highly prized, mainly for the presence of "My Clown," which is considered to be one of the great psychedelic singles of all time. Tom Newman, who went on to glory as the engineer of choice for Mike Oldfield, handles the vocals for the majority of the album (the exception being Chris Jackson's "Crying Is for Writers"), as well as the majority ...

Light Flight: The Anthology album
$16.45 Conscious (Con"scious) [L. conscius; con- + scire to know.] -Possessing the faculty of knowing one's own thoughts or mental operations. Conscious, born Willy Higinio in Mineola N.Y. January 26, 1978, just 2 years before the turn of the decade, was destined to a life of music. His birth month coincides with the Roman god, Janus, represented artistically with two faces, one looking into the past & the other looking into the future. An interesting coincidence to say the least. Higinio comes from a diverse cultural background. Both of his parents were of Central America descent with a family heritage rooted in Belize, Honduras, and Guatemala. This exposed him to a large variety of rhythmical tunes ranging from Salsa, Meringue, Bachata, Punta Rock, Calypso, Soca, and Reggae. While growing up in the early 80's, he listened to Pop, Jazz, and R&B. With his deep appreciation for Hip-Hop, music was to remain a constant subject and influence throughout his life.As a child, Conscious attended church services where he participated in the junior choir. This taught him how to harmonize with congruous melodies. As a young man, Conscious always had a passion to pick up an instrument, so at the age of 11 he started taking drum lessons. While learning to play this instrument, he discovered that rhythm gives music its character. In Junior High School he joined the jazz band where he participated in concerts and solo performances. He continued on to play throughout High School where he obtained the knowledge on playing a variety of percussion instruments. This enabled him to be selected to play in the Brooklyn Phil Harmonic in the 1995 and 1996 spring concerts where he played the kettle drum (Timpani). To participate in this particular concert ...
