Duos Bachateros, Vol. 2 album
$11.89 Latin pop boy band Aventura has achieved no small amount of success with their unique blend of traditional Dominican bachata and sleek, Top 40-oriented R&B. THE LAST, Aventura's fifth studio release, further explores the band's swoon-worthy style, and is one of their most accomplished and impressive efforts.
As usual, the quartet plays to their strengths, which include lilting tropical ballads, with the occasional foray into hip-hop-flavored slow jams, such as "Spanish Fly," featuring cameos from Ludacris and Wyclef Jean. Additional cameos from Akon, Wisin y Yandel, and jazz legend Arturo Sandoval heighten the star appeal of THE LAST, but it's Aventura's smooth, sultry bachata-pop that steals the show.

| | Victor Manuelle CD (1996)
Duos Bachateros, Vol. 2 CD music
$5.69 This is the recording that made Victor Manuelle a household name, placing him in the front rank of the most celebrated Puerto Rican salsa singers. The typically loud and brash Sergio George production seems an adequate backdrop for the talents of the improvisational singer, who finally reached his personal identity with this CD. This production features George's usual New York personnel: brass men José "Ite" Jerez, David "Piro" Rodríguez, William Cepeda, and Jimmy Bosch contribute heavily, while rhythm men Marc Quiñones, Rubén Rodríguez, and Luis Quintero, together with Manuelle's timbalero and band director, Chago Martínez, make a rabid, compelling percussive ensemble. Highlights include the smash hit "Hay Que Poner el Alma" (composed by Omar Alfanno), "Todo Quedo, Quedo," and Johnny Ortiz' ebullient salsa homage "Ahora Me Toca a Mí." One of Manuelle's most important productions, this is constantly requested during his public performances and tours. ~ ...

| | Alejandro Fernandez Corazon Abierto CD (2004)
Duos Bachateros, Vol. 2 album
$12.79 One of Mexico's most successful artists of the 1990s, Alejandro Fernandez is the son of celebrated ranchera singer Vicente Fernandez, and has continued his family's rich tradition of heartfelt vocalizing into the new millennium. The smooth pop of A CORAZON ABIERTO is a slight departure for Fernandez, but his sensitive vocals are well suited to his material, which varies from the throbbing, sentimental "Me Dedique A Perderte" to the flamenco overtones of the uptempo "Se Va," one of the most traditional-sounding tracks on offer here. The sultry, acoustic "Lo Que Pudo Ser" again highlights Fernandez's smoothly seductive, pleading vocals, while the Cuban influence ...

Duos Bachateros, Vol. 2 music CDs
$14.79 The reissue of Conflict's 1983 debut, IT'S TIME TO SEE WHO'S WHO, is the first in a series of Mortarhate Records classic reissues. The disc is an obvious choice for a first pick in the series: Conflict carried Britain's punk torch with dignity in the 1980s, and their first record is arguably their best. Full of raw yet agile performances, righteous fury, and invectives against the government, complacency, and meat-eating, IT'S TIME is a punk classic through and through. Remastered, and containing ...
