Dio: Ronnie James Dio (vocals); Craig Goldy (guitar, keyboards); Scott Warren (keyboards); Jeff Pilson (bass instrument); Simon Wright (drums). There's something about a post-millennium album cover that features a giant blue-horned minion of Satan in pre-pounce with an illuminated crystal ball in its leathery hand that simply warms the soul, and the fact that it adorns a record called Master of the Moon can mean only one thing: Dio. Unlike many in the aging metal community, Ronnie James Dio still possesses the same powerful voice that fueled the genre through its late-'70s and '80s heydays, and the reigning dark prince of Elfdom and two-time Black Sabbath frontman is still capable of writing a killer song or two. MOTM resembles earlier works like Last in Line and Sacred Heart in its ability to buffer those one or two great tracks with seven or eight forgettable ones. Luckily, it's the first one out of the gate, "One More for the Road," that packs the biggest wallop. Similar in attack to classics like "We Rock" and "Stand Up and Shout," it sets a breakneck pace for a record that gives up just minutes after the firing of the start gun. What follows is a series of midtempo rockers outfitted with RJD's generic fantasy lyrics about dreams, evil, and being "stronger than the wind," which flirt with creative arrangements and forward-thinking key changes, only to concede to the dark lord of banality. There are moments that inspire, like the snaky Brian May-like riff that weaves through the title track, and the surprisingly political, melodic, and complex "The Man Who Would Be King" -- in true RJD fashion he references the Middle Eastern community as "the people of the sand" -- is among his most satisfying since 1987's "All the Fools Sailed Away," but Dio's on autopilot for the record's majority, resulting in a mediocre romp through the ruins of a land and a time that hath been long forgotten. ~ James Christopher Monger Dio Master Of The Moon Songs Master Of The Moon Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews GOOD HEAVY METAL CD This album is great. It has good songs and a couple impressive solos. Craig Goldie is up there in my book. Dio is a bastion of classic Heavy Metal in a world taken over by "new metal". I look forward to their next album. King of Rock & Roll There is no bad Dio album.....Dio is the most brilliant heavy metal artist of all time, although I miss the days of Holy Diver. Submitted by cjshunting (Montana, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A Breath of Fresh Air This is one of the better cds to come out as of late. With all the fake rock bands, and that horrible rap music, it is good to see that old bands still have it. Submitted by tbodakjr (Ocean, NJ, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
DIO IS BACK TO MASTER THE MOON! I don't agree with any reviewer who claims their a DIO fan and doesn't like this cd.Sure it's what i call slow metal,in other words songs are more in the Holy Diver,Heaven and Hell vain. They are not fast tracks like Killing the Dragon or We Rock, however they ROCK like only DIO can.My advice is to keep listening and it will grow on you. This is just my opinion, just enjoy the voice of one of the best Metal singers of all time! Another great cd! Dio have made some great cd`s over the years. The Holy Diver,Sacred Heart period was my favorite. Since then they have put out some good releases, but nothing fantastic. I really liked this new one a lot. The band has Craig Goldy back. Simon Wright is on drums and Jeff Pilson on bass. This is one cd I am really glad I bought! $13.15 Although you wouldn't know it from their embarrassing depiction in the infamous The Decline of Western Civilization, Pt. 2 rockumentary, Odin were once a relatively well-respected band -- at least by the horrendously vapid standards of L.A.'s mid-'80s hair metal ...

Master Of The Moon
$10.15 A few words from Michael about his first album release:"I am really excited about this project for a lot of different reasons. Firstly this album represents the culmination of ten years of songwriting and playing. I have worked on a variety of studio projects throughout the years, but this is the first time I have been able to do an entire album. For me, I guess this marks a milestone in my music career. Not only that, but the themes I explore in my songs hold a lot of meaning and emotion. There are some clear themes throughout the songs that you'll pick up on as you listen. I just turned thirty this year and the last ten years have been truly hectic. I feel as though I've already lived a lifetime. The things I have seen and done, coupled with the craziness of modern living make me sentimental for simpler times.Besides writing songs, I also work in the field of technology. Sometimes it seems life revolves around machines, computers, advertising and television. We are constantly bombarded by images and sound, light and darkness. We need to unplug. The songs on the Stars and Oblivion record really cry out for human connection. They also cry out for a connection to God and the spiritual side of life. We invest nearly all of our time and energy in the physical side of life that the spiritual side is nearly lost under the clutter. The first song, Outer Space really opens up this idea. Sometimes it seems that God is so far away from us, that he's living in outer space somewhere and out of reach. It may not be true, but it doesn't stop us from feeling that way some days. Some of the words are, "Will you come down from outer space, why do you lock yourself away, all I need is time to unwind, and you return to outer space..."This song was written on a quiet day outside, next to the Peace River in Florida. I wrote the whole thing in ten minutes. Just unplugging from the stimuli that constantly surrounds me was enough to birth this song so quickly. One of my favorite tracks on the record is the second song, Underage. It's probably my favorite because it really comes from the heart. One of the great things about this album was I was able to record it with some great friends. When I was just seventeen years old, I was in a band with a few friends. We broke up the band after a while and went our separate ways. We all worked on different projects during the next ten years, and eventually two of my former band mates built a studio. That is where we recorded this record, at Silvertone Productions in Manchester New Jersey. One of the vivid memories I have from our teenage years is always having to prove ourselves to people. ...
