| | Matt Wessel Carry On CD (2006)
Live At The Louisiana Hayride music CDs
$13.29 A native of Gurnee, Illinois, Matt Wessel was born on September 2, 1981 to Thomas and Patrice Wessel. He didn't come into the world alone, however. His twin sister, Kim, arrived on the same day he did. Two more sets of twins were to follow years later. In 1985, Amy and Beth were born. In 1989, Ben and Mike made their entrance into the world. Nicki, the oldest, was born in 1979. The whole "three sets of twins" thing garnered quite a bit of media coverage. The distinguished family even appeared on CBS This Morning (twice).Being musical in the Wessel family was not an option. Matt's father played guitar and his mom plays the piano. Matt started taking piano at the age of 5. He studied with his mother for one year, and then began taking privately at the age of 6. He studied with Maureen Hart in Grayslake, Illinois from then until the end of high school. Matt began singing at an early age - joining the choir in 4th grade and only giving it up in high school so that he could do sports. He joined the school band in the 5th grade and did his best to learn the clarinet. After a couple of years, he made the switch to saxophone. None of these instruments really pleased Matt. However, he played them so that he would be eligible to play in the Jazz Band, where he played the piano. Matt attended Warren Township High School in Gurnee. He played the piano throughout high school in the Warren Jazz Ensemble where he earned such honors as "oustanding soloist" and "oustanding musician". He was honored in his senior year as the most oustanding member of his school jazz band, one of the most oustanding members of his symphonic band (where he was then playing the bass clarinet), and was also recognized as one of the Top 5 young composers in the state of Illinois. The song that won him that last recognition was "Everlasting Love", off of his first album, "Pure Inspirations".Upon entering high school, Matt also began to play the piano at his church, St. Paul the Apostle in Gurnee. Every Saturday night he was up in front of the church banging away on the piano. It was through his time at St. Paul's that Matt not only obtained a strong desire and longing for liturgical music and the church itself, but it is where he also learned to write music. Matt attributes his ability to write music from having had to play the piano from guitar chords at masses. When Matt was a freshman, his father was diagnosed with a brain tumor. In his junior year, on November 23, 1997, his father passed away from the disease. Matt began to write music as a way of escaping the sorrow of his father's death. The result was a collection of inspirational songs called "Pure Inspirations". The songs were meant to be a tribute to Matt's father as well as a form of inspiration for the world to experience. ...
| | Silverchair Young Modern CD (2007) (Import) Australia
Live At The Louisiana Hayride songs
$12.99 With 2007's YOUNG MODERN, Australian trio Silverchair move still further away from the derivative grunge sound that typified their early releases. The band's fifth studio album is remarkably ambitious, not least for its impressive roster of sonic architects and collaborators. Producer Nick Launay (Talking Heads), mixer David Botrill (Tool), and legendary arranger Van Dyke Parks all lend their talents to YOUNG MODERN's landscape.
There's not a trace of the band's once prominent guitar-heavy sludge, and even the opening rocker, "Young Modern Station," ...
| | Amy Gallatin Sweet Gatherings CD (2006)
Live At The Louisiana Hayride album
$13.29 Amy Gallatin, born in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, lived in several states before settling in the West, where she was raised. During her ten years in Idaho and Montana, she had had the good fortune of being able to work at two of her loves in life: horses and music; Amy helped to organize the horseback riding programs and was the featured entertainer at various guest ranches. Her performing background had been as a solo artist out West prior to her meeting some Connecticut musicians while wintering in New England in 1992.With that Connecticut connection came the opportunity to tour as a working unit, so Amy packed her guitar and moved east in the fall of 1993 to pursue her music. Four albums later (including a live album and a project recorded in Nashville with ace producer Rich Adler), Amy Gallatin and her band Stillwaters have taken the stage at some of the most prestigious venues in the U.S., Mexico, and Europe. They were invited in 1996, '98, and 2003 to tour several European countries. Their most recent performances in The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and Denmark drew extremely enthusiastic crowds at house concerts, music clubs, theaters, country & bluegrass festivals, and National Radio. Amy & Stillwaters represented the United States as the featured performers at the European World of Bluegrass convention in The Netherlands in May '98. Amy is at home singing various musical styles -- country, folk, bluegrass or western swing--branding each song with soulful sincerity. Her influences are diverse, ranging from old and contemporary cowboy tunes learned out West, to great country artists like Emmylou Harris, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, and the Everly Brothers, with even a dash of blues influence thrown in--Koko Taylor, Katie Wilson, BB King, and Shemekiah Copeland. She currently performs with renowned Dobroist Roger Williams, formerly with Southern Rail, Salamander Crossing, and White Mountain Bluegrass. In this follow-up to her first album (Northern Girl, now out of print), Amy diversifies both her material and instrumentation, drawing further on her Western influences yet including songs from writers on both sides of the Rocky Mountains. Rob and Bonnie Willows Quist penned "This House of Memories," an ode to the Quist family homestead in Northern Montana. "Edgar Griffin--1918" is a haunting song written by old friend Walkin' Jim Stoltz about an inscription he ...
