Cool On The Coast album
$9.09 For the past few decades, Al Jarreau has established himself as a truly modern jazz singer, one for the post-fusion generation--those who grew up with the sounds of the cordial contemporary jazz of George Benson, Spyro Gyra, and Herbie Hancock. CHRISTMAS is Jarreau's first-ever collection of holiday songs on which he wraps his supple, honeyed vocal chords around some traditional Christmas ...

Cool On The Coast music CDs
$11.29 Released in celebration of Les Paul's 90th birthday, AMERICAN MADE WORLD PLAYED pays tribute to the master guitarist and inventor who changed the face of jazz, country, blues, and rock with his recording and guitar-design innovations. While the lineup here is stellar and includes vocalists Sting, Joss Stone, and Mick Hucknall (Simply Red), and guitarists Joe Perry (Aerosmith) and Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi), among others, the album is at its best when it allows Paul to shine in an instrumental setting, as on the slinky rendition of Duke Ellington's "Caravan" ...

| | Ray Davies Kinks Choral Collection CD (2009)
Cool On The Coast CD music
$15.05 Orchestral and choral arrangements of rock songs have been a curious subgenre ever since the mid-'60s when Andrew Loog Oldham arranged The Rolling Stones Songbook for syrupy strings, but The Kinks Choral Collection stands apart from the pack for the simple reason that it's not the project of some associate or admirer, but rather chief Kink Ray Davies. His very presence as arranger and lead vocal means The Kinks Choral Collection isn't nearly as stuffy and middlebrow as so many of these orchestral rock albums; he manages to inject some semblance of rock & roll by pushing the songs forward with guitar, and letting the rhythms swing instead of plod. This looseness is the first big surprise of the album. The second is its unrepentant but quite possibly accidental silliness, how many of the major guitar riffs are transposed for choir, an audacious idea in concept ...

Cool On The Coast music CDs
$16.45 Dr Breeze is Wilk McKean, born and raised in New Orleans he grew up with the sounds of Dixieland jazz, rhythm and blues and pop. At the age of nine, his grandfather bought him a trumpet and he learned the basics of music, hoping to be the next Al Hurt. In 1963, his life changed forever when he heard The Beatles on the radio. He bought his first guitar at the age of twelve and like the song said "played until his fingers bled". He was playing his first professional gigs by the age of fifteen, and by the time he was legal to play in clubs, he had already played his share of them. He played in groups with names like The Shadows of Eternity, Potter's Field and Bayou. During this time, he also had the opportunity to work as a vocalist in some of the area's top recording studios, as well as compiling a nice collection of original music. He also wrote a couple of radio jingles. In 1979, he helped form a group called Flite. This group was a very popular musical force on the north shore of Lake Ponchartrain until the tragic loss of drummer and friend Kevin Frere in the summer of 2005. He stayed with Flite playing numerous venues including clubs, weddings, private parties, Mardi Gras balls and fairs until 1989.In 1989, he left the U.S. for a seven-year European tour. Living ...

| | Don Cherry Hear And Now CD (1976) Reissue
Cool On The Coast album
$10.65 Hear and Now's cover depicts a smiling Cherry posing like Buddha, and holding a trumpet with a bent mouthpiece -- an indication of some meditative sounds, but it's really a mishmash of styles with a leaning toward African rhythms. An underlying social message runs through the album of Cherry compositions (except one) produced by Narada Michael Walden. Cherry plays very little trumpet on "Universal Mother"; the African-based excursion is ...
