Standard Screen; Soundtrack English TAXI debuted in 1978 and quickly worked its way into the pantheon of sitcom classics with the help of one of the finest ensemble casts in television history. Set within the confines of a dingy parking garage, the series chronicled the ups and downs of an assortment of endearingly eccentric New York City cabbies--veteran driver Alex (Judd Hirsch), single mother Elaine (Marilu Henner), aspiring actor Bobby (Jeff Conway), struggling boxer Tony (Tony Danza), and, most indelibly, immigrant mechanic Latka (the brilliant Andy Kaufman)--all lorded over by the acid-tongued barbs of diminutive taxi dispatcher Louie De Palma (Danny DeVito). This collection features all 22 episodes from the Emmy Award-winning comedy series' debut season. Taxi - The Complete First Season Movie Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) Awesome First Season to a terrific series TAXI was my favorite sit-com from 1978-1982. It was an excellent ensemble of actors which came together. Every one has a favorite character from the show that you can relate to. The DVD is bare-bones with just the episodes and that's fine because the episodes do all the talking for themselves. Submitted by dave (Cottage Grove, MN) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
This is how it is done Oh Taxi, I can't think of a show with so many "Super stars" working all together.
The story line is GREAT, the show is a family show, one of those old Classics that is for all ages.
I still remmember a dream had once, I was visiting New Yourk, and each Taxi Chricters took my on a raid around NY. I love the show, sure it had some slowe episodes, but I think it is a perfct 10.
BTW, if you want something extra, get the movie "Man on the Moon" it is Andy's life, they bring some footeage from Taxi, You will love it. Submitted by Maxtoons.com (Mexico) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Took a lot for me to give this 3 stars! I bought this 3 DVD set thinking that all my favorite memories of Taxi would have been revived. Unfortunately, I discovered some other things that I didn't really notice when this series was on the air. It really stood out to me that only about four of the original cast really had above average acting skills; Judd Hirsch, Danny DeVito, Andy Kaufman, and Christopher Lloyd (who has a small part in one episode on this set). Yet, this series launched the careers for Tony Danza (Who's The Boss?), and Andy Kaufman (SNL). Jeff Conaway was already doing motion pictures (Grease) and it seemed to me like he was just playing Kenickie again. On the other hand, Judd Hirsch was launched into motion pictures (Running On Empty) and his own series (Dear John). Danny DeVito had a great acting career (Jewel Of The Nile, Twins, director of Death To Smoochy) and of course Christopher Lloyd acheived stardom with the Back To the Future films. So what stopped me from liking this DVD set? Plainly put, weak story lines and no bonus features AT ALL! There are only five episodes I would recommend from this season; The Pilot, Blind Date, Memories of Cab 84 Pt. 1 & 2, and Paper Marriage. Not really worth buying because you can see these on cable in NY local stations, and besides with no bonus features, what's the point? Submitted by DolbyNR (Charlotte, NC) Was This Review Helpful? A serious contender for the title of best Wu-Tang solo album (rivaled only by the Genius' Liquid Swords), Only Built 4 Cuban Linx is also perhaps the most influential, thanks to Raekwon's cinematic imagination. If the Genius is the Wu's best overall lyricist, Raekwon is arguably their best storyteller, and here he translates the epic themes and narratives of a Mafia movie into a startlingly accomplished hip-hop album. Raekwon wasn't ...
