After a pair of multi-platinum records made Nelly the instant icon of St. Louis rap, the man who found the perfect balance of pop and hip-hop still had a surplus of music to let out. So with his 2004 efforts, Nelly decided to split up his new compositions into two albums--the down-and-dirty, raw club jams and the smooth, refined songs, respectively SWEAT and SUIT.
SWEAT opens with "Heart of a Champion," a powerful, sports-referencing piece of adrenaline-pumping hip-hop that samples, of all things, John Tesh's "Roundball," the ubiquitous theme music for NBC Sports. From the ballfield, Nelly moves the party to the club for most of the remaining tracks, with pure dance cuts like "Na-Nana-Na" and the crunk-flavored "Flap Your Wings." He breaks stride for a more sinister 1970s-funk vibe on "Tilt Ya Head Back," featuring a soul-stirring vocal turn from Christina Aguilera. "Playa" goes for a smooth groove, with Mobb Deep and Missy Elliott dropping by to cast a mood both dark and sweet. For SWEAT, Nelly clearly intended to create a loose, unguarded party atmosphere, and with help from his friends and the best producers in the game, he succeeds.

| | Ciara Goodies CD (2004)
Sweat
$8.99 As a rare female voice in the world of crunk, Ciara is in the unique position to offer a counterpoint to the multitude of hits like Lil Jon's "Get Low" and Petey Pablo's "Freek-a-Leek," which feature men going into clubs and calling out any attractive female. On Ciara's breakout single, "Goodies," the singer coos sultrily--but forcefully--about her independence and how she refuses to be treated like an object, even enlisting the aforementioned Lil Jon and Pablo help out, producing and guest rapping, respectively. It's no wonder "Goodies" was a 2004 summer smash, with its singularly disarming combination of an empowering message backed by an intoxicatingly sexy beat.
Ciara's debut record takes its name and direction from the aforementioned hit, backing up her outstanding single with a slew of aggressive, seductive dance-floor hits cut by sweet ballads ...
| | Nelly Suit CD (2004)
Sweat
$12.75 Nelly broke out in 2000 with his debut, COUNTRY GRAMMAR, and its infectious summer-anthem title track. Two years later, the St. Louis rapper dropped the multi-platinum NELLYVILLE and another summer anthem, "Hot in Herre," which balanced raw carnality with a deft pop hook. Nelly has always possessed this duality of unrefined energy and a melodic sensibility, and, in 2004, he decided to break the two aspects of his music into separate albums, SWEAT and SUIT.
On SUIT, he focuses on his more cultivated side with a constantly engaging, tightly produced record, filled with memorable singles. Just because there's a measure of manner pervading the record doesn't mean that Nelly's not having fun, as the disc ranges from the inspired balladry of "My Place" and the borderline-chopped-and-screwed haze of "Woodgrain and Leather wit a Hole." SUIT is still a party, and, as it's a Nelly party, there are tons of VIP guests crowding in. Most excitingly, ...
| | Mind Of Mannie Fresh CD (2004)
Sweat
$12.65 On THE MIND OF MANNIE FRESH, Fresh avails himself admirably as a rapper, layering sweet and often provocative rhymes over a variety of backing tracks of his own conception. On the breakbeat-boasting and Whodini-esque "Nothing Compares to Love" and the Al B. Sure!-interpolating "How We Ride," Fresh reminds the listener he was around in the early days of hip-hop, conjuring up the feel of times past. Mostly, however, Fresh's eyes ...
| | Eminem Encore CDs (2002) Bonus CD
Sweat
$10.39 THE EMINEM SHOW was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Award for Album Of The
Year. "Without Me" was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Record Of The Year and Best Male Rap Solo Performance.
This deluxe limited edition includes a bonus DVD containing previously unreleased footage and interview with Eminem.
As one of the most controversial figures in hip-hop history, Eminem can be forgiven for being somewhat self-obsessed. THE EMINEM SHOW's opening cut "White America" sums up the notorious rapper's self-defense by keenly observing that while the color of his skin has something to do with his widespread popularity it's also the reason his lyrics are examined so scrupulously by critics who otherwise wouldn't bother. "I could be one of your kids" he proclaims, ...

| | Burnaz Circle Is Tight CD (2002)
Sweat
$12.69 Timing is everything and the time is now!! With the line between hip-hop and mainstream as all but disappeared, it's now The Burnaz turn to bring their music into the light. With their raw talent and charisma, which belies their youthful years, the Burnaz is ready to step into the spot light. In 1999, The Burnaz were born consisting of three members from Brooklyn, who go by the names of P.Novakane, S.V. and Vill Rawsteen. Each member gave a great deal of thought to their name. P. Novakane, yes exactly, Novakane, meaning like the drug he's numb to everyone. "I'm a lyrical poet, with many metaphors and punch lines in my rhymes." Vill Rawsteen gets his name from the Robert Deniro character in Casino because he flows tight. "I'm a hood story teller spitten what I see and paint pictures for everyone to see." S.V. stands for Stay Vicious, which is self-explanatory. His rhymes are unpredictable and raw. He uses a combination of punch lines and street lingo to get his point across. The Burnaz have been performing at local colleges and clubs to promote their upcoming album "Circle Is Tight" They've opened up for Wu Tang's Killah Army, and performed along side Doug E. Fresh. With live apperances at college radio, cable shows, and a heavy underground following from tracks laid down on several mix tapes, The Burnaz are building a name for themselves. The Burnaz lead single "Hell No, Uh Uh" which features the first lady off of Raw Inc. Candis is already in heavy rotation in the NY club scene. With club goers dancing at Club Envy, Blue Tequila or Luahn one can't seem to escape the Burnaz club banger! The track is radio friendly and has maistream appeal. The strength of the Burnaz lie in their lyrical ability, which allows them to paint pictures and bring tracks to life. In "Guess Who", Vill let's you know what he's all about. "Load your heaters/i'm in the hood with dimes and cheebah/three ninas getting brain from the baddest diva/n**** like me trying to see chips like D-Jeter/on the block with nicks and dimes/I don't mean change either." While many MC's are not able to express their personal feelings to the world, "Once Upon A Hood Life" they express what goes through their minds as they come up in the mean streets of ...
