Chopin: Ballades, Scherzos / Rubinstein CD

 Historic and Revelatory Playing
I was fortunate enough to be able to scrimp together enough money to purchase all of the Rubinstein Chopin recordings in the late 1950s and early '60s. I and friends would play these at one anothers homes and marvel at what we had been fortunate enough to discover. This feeling remains intact with a re-hearing of the new mastering of these great piano pieces. The sound is 46 years old (recorded 1959) and will challenge any recording done today! The sound is clean, clear, precise, and without piano "wobble" as could occur in older LPs. The playing is, of course, world class and very romantic. The critics have had at Rubinstein in the past decade or more as being too sweet, too romantic, and heavens knows what. There are other great Chopin recordings of the Ballads and Scherzos, but this man's playing is simply so comfortable and "right" that no one should be disappointed in hearing him, especially at this great price and wonderful sound! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

 Breathtaking
Achingly beautiful music, performed by one of the legendary Chopin interpreters. This is a must-have disc.
