Ever wonder what it would be like to roll around and collect everything you touched in one massive heap? Well that's exactly the premise of Namco's strange action game Katamari Damacy. In it, players assume the role of the Prince of the Cosmos as he undertakes a quest to right the wrongs of his father who accidentally knocked the stars out of the sky. The only way to fix it is to roll around the world and collect as many items as possible in one gigantic clump. Both a single player story mode and two-player battle feature are included for the romp, and gamers will be able to accumulate hundreds of different items of various shapes and sizes. Katamari Damacy Games Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews short but sweet Really in all, a fun game. Really really short, and lacking extra features, but I can't put it down. It's so awesome that I took it over to my friend's house today and HE beat it before I did! He couldn't put it down either! Absolutely unique! This game is a gem, particularly for those who like things with a little bit of Japanese oddness. The graphics are rather plain, but after you've had the opportunity to roll your katamari through a crowd of screaming schoolchildren, you just won't care.
The play mechanics of this game bring up a number of implementation problems that are very deftly solved. I also like the way the game has been prepared for the American market. It has all the distinctiveness (I assume) of the original with a distinctly noninterventionist feel (witness the name). But at the same time, the translation into English is superb. An excellent game Katamari Damacy is not the masterpiece of the century, but it is definitely an excellent game, very fresh and very innovative. Its unique and original gameplay makes this game addicting, in spite of its poor graphics. Be warned, though, that it is quite short : I finished it in a couple of days, with casual gaming only. Features Play is controlled with the analog sticks only. No buttons to press. No combos to cause distress. Featuring ball-rolling and object-collecting gameplay mechanics of mesmerizing fluidity, reduced to Pac-Man simplicity, through pure absurdity; dimensions change drastically as your clump grows from a fraction of an inch to a monstrous freak of nature. Go from rolling along a tabletop to ravaging through city streets, picking up momentum and skyscrapers along the way; two-player battle mode lets you compete in a race to grow the biggest ball of stuff. Even the competition can be picked up, if your opponent is unfortunate enough to get in your way; enjoy quirky, infectious humor throughout from the insanely cosmic animations, to the wacky and wonderful musical stylings, to the royally contagious storyline that's undoubtedly like no other. Controls X-button: take picture, view 2p competition controls, proceed to next screen or enter L1-button: look 1P, lock on 2p, select picture, change area, shoot star in view constellations or advance to next screen in collection screen start-button: pause or save and return to previous screen in photo album directional-buttons: select item L2 and R2-button: change area, shoot star in view constellations, object zoom in or out in collection screen right analog stick: rotate mushroom left analog stick up: roll forward or face right left or right analog stick diagonal up and left or right: curve left or right tilt left and right analog sticks in opposite directions: brake right analog stick up: roll forward or face left L3 and R3-button: quick turn.
Katamari Damacy Hints Clear the game and the credits will roll. While the credits are playing, you can move the katamari around and collect stuff.
