Although you'd be hard-pressed to discern their heritage, The Flame emerged out of the 1960s rich South African/Malaysian pop scene as a superb cover combo. However, it wasn't until after the quartet--consisting of siblings Edries 'Brother' Fataar (bass/vocals), Ruttle-in-waiting Ricky Fataar (drums/vocals) and Steve Fataar (guitar/vocals), as well as Blondie Chaplin (guitar/vocals)--had moved to England and were gigging around London that Al Jardine convinced fellow Beach Boys co-founder Carl Wilson to sign the Flame to the Beach Boys' Brother Records label. The eponymously-monikered platter would become their best-known thanks to Ricky and Blondie's association as part-time members of the Beach Boys circa the mid 1970s. During the drawn out legal and political processes that would allow them to earn a living Stateside, the Flame collaborated with producer Wilson and Beach Boys' engineer Steve Desper to craft this ten-song collection, which reflected overwhelming similarities and obvious inspiration to the Beatles' post-RUBBER SOUL period. In 2006 Fallout Records issued a 'needle drop' CD incarnation of THE FLAME. While better than nothing at all, it is a poor substitution for the proper remastering that the platter most certainly deserves.

What a real DJ thinks Flame has done good by apprenticing for a time under The Cross Movement. This is truly one of the best albums I have ever heard in my life (secular or HHH). This album has it all, lyricism, flavor, power, message, banging beats, rawness, street cred and much more. Secular artists that have clowned HHH for years will have to bow their knees and recognize. This is a must by for any hip hop head, music lover and/or lover of God. Submitted by DJ Guardian (Tampa, FL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Showin love from Cali FLAME does more than represent on this album... He put the standard high, I'd like to see any secular artist try to compete. This album shows the world that there is more to life then guns, drugs, sex and violence. You wanna be a real man or a real woman, fallow the teaching of Jesus Christ, You know! Man of his words... Flame brings rap to a whole new light. I myself, am a hardcore rocker... and don't too often step into the rap realm. And to be quite honest, I probably wouldn't have, but for coming across one Marcus T. W. Gray (Flame himself...) and seeing him live his life before I even knew he was a rapper. Because I was so impressed by his actions and the way he carried himself about the work of the Lord, I bought this album... and I was floored. I cannot help but be enthralled by this album. The Lord's hand is on this man... Submitted by Chris Cloud (Saint Louis, Missouri) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Bill & Gloria Gaither & The Homecoming Friends Billy Graham Music Homecoming, Vol. 1 CD (2001)
Flame music CDs
$14.35 A BILLY GRAHAM MUSIC HOMECOMING VOL. 1 won the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Southern, Country, or Bluegrass Gospel Album.
The Gaither organization here gathers elements of the Billy Graham Crusades, including Ricky Skaggs, Doug Oldham, and Ray Boltz in a solid collection of uplifting worship music. This album isn't for the faint-hearted, however--the Gaithers' modus operandi isn't exactly subtle, consisting of full-on choir and band, and full-throated singers, who tend to bludgeon the listener into submission.
This is, then, music for the already converted, who will find much to appreciate here, including old faithfuls such as "Standing in the Need of Prayer," "How Great Thou Art," and "His Eye Is on the Sparrow." If the overall intention behind this set was to reassure and to comfort, the Gaithers' specialty, it succeeds admirably.
This boxset contains 2 CDs, 2 videos and a book.
Full performer name: Bill & Gloria Gaither & The Homecoming Friends.
