Issued in September 1969, Another Voyage is one of the Ramsey Lewis Trio's best efforts, during its initial release making it into the R&B Top 35. With the lineup of Lewis, drummer Maurice White, and bassist Cleveland Eaton, the LP serves as a prime example of the muscular Chicago sound while preserving the pianist's trademark elegance. In addition to such throbbing, kinetic workouts as Eddie Harris' "Bold and Black" and "If You've Got It Flaunt It, Pts. 1-2," there's a nice mid-groovin' cover of Stevie Wonder's "My Cherie Amour," Harris' contemplative "How Beautiful Is Spring," and the sumptuous "Opus V," written by Charles Stepney. Of special note is future Earth, Wind & Fire leader White's use of the kalimba on "Uhuru." The first-ever broadcast network performance by superstar Madonna, which aired the night before Thanksgiving last year, is now available in a CD+DVD package that adds bonus behind-the-scenes footage. The Confessions Tour, filmed at Londons Wembley Arena during her worldwide sold-out 25-city Confessions Tour, features songs from throughout the dance divas career but largely focuses on her latest studio album, Confessions On A Dance Floor, which debuted #1 in the U.S. and is approaching 8 million copies sold around the world. The DVD features the complete 2-hour concert, including the uncensored version of Live To Tell plus four songs that didnt air on television.
A live CD and documentary DVD that announced the launch of Madonna's CONFESSIONS tour, the aptly named THE CONFESSIONS TOUR, released in January 2007, presents the dazzling spectacle that tour entailed. Recorded live at London's Wembley Stadium, CONFESSIONS spins through a good deal of Madge's 2005 disco opus, CONFESSIONS OF A DANCE FLOOR, and finds the singer in excellent voice.
"Dancefloor" is the operative word for each of the album's 13 tracks, as even the tunes predating CONFESSIONS are treated with that album's thumping, glitzy vibe. Even old-school Madonna classics like "Lucky Star" and "Like a Virgin" fit into the pulsing, strobe-lit aesthetic, making the set a unified statement. The accompanying DVD raises the stakes further by revealing Madonna as a consummate entertainer whose stage show has been refined to perfection over the years. A must for Madonna fans, and a startling reminder of Madonna's vitality (after 25 years in the business), THE CONFESSIONS TOUR is a first-rate live document.
