Liner Note Author: Sid Gribetz. Recording information: Van Gelder Studios, Englewood Cliffs, NJ (06/23/2009). Photographer: John Abbott . Not all mellow, Houston Person's tribute to the softer side of jazz has its moments based on the laid-back timbre of his soul rather than a program consisting of only ballads. The tenor sax he wields certainly reflects the tradition established by Ben Webster in its ...

| | Daniel Tosh True Stories I Made Up CD (2005) With DVD
T'Estimo Tant: Piano Solo 28-03-1996
$12.79 Tosh is currently one of the most requested comic headliners in the country and has evolved into one of the most popular and successful college acts, performing at over 700 campuses. He's appeared multiple times on Letterman and Leno, and was recently seen on MTV's "Punk'd". Previous TV credits include "The Late, Late Show With Craig Kilborn", "Jimmy Kimmel Live", "Last Call With Carson Daly", "Premium Blend", "The Best Week Ever", "The Test", and "Friday Night Stand-Up". All his best material (over 50 minutes) on one CD. The DVD compiles his best Comedy Central performances, including the highly rated "Comedy Central Presents."
Personnel: Daniel Tosh (spoken vocals). Take the rapid wit of Dane Cook and trade his hyper-cockiness for dry wickedness and you've got Daniel Tosh, which is by all means a compliment. Tosh matches Cook's ability to spit wry crassness, but he's more absurd and complex. Much of his material hits two to three seconds after the fact, partly because it takes awhile to unravel and partly because of the "I can't believe he just said that" factor. The title True Stories I Made Up is the least witty thing about this package, but it references a core routine, "Fictitious Disorder," that will one day be thought of as trademark Tosh. The comedian explains how living in denial is easier than reality on the track, and goes ...
| | David "Fathead" Newman Life CD (2007)
T'Estimo Tant: Piano Solo 28-03-1996
$13.45 Personnel: David "Fathead" Newman (alto saxophone); Peter Bernstein (guitar); David Leonhardt (piano); Steve Nelson (vibraphone); John Menegon (bass instrument); Yoron Israel (drums). The veteran saxophonist David "Fathead" Newman has been a major figure in jazz since the mid 1950s, also contributing to many of Ray Charles's recordings. In this set of mostly standards, Newman plays flute, as well as alto and tenor saxophone on intimate small-group arrangements of tunes including "Autumn in New York," "What a Wonderful World," and "I Can't Get Started." There's also a particularly poignant rendering of the title track, written by his friend and colleague, the late pianist John Hicks. On this Highnote set, master saxophonist David "Fathead" Newman digs back into the past for standards from the worlds of film, pop, ...
