With his previous two records, Assemblage 23's Tom Shear has proven to be one of the most consistent artists in EBM. Though it varies little from Defiance and is just a notch below Failure in terms of impact, Storm can certainly stand on its own. The lyrics are just as powerful as anything Shear has written and, set to cosmic synth and propulsive dance beats, they create an emotional tidal wave of pain and loss. The encompassing "Human" begins the album with the words "There have been times throughout my life when I fell so far/I thought I'd never stand again/I watched my dreams depart." From there, Storm doesn't let up. Shear sometimes recycles his own phrases ("endless loop," "chaos rains"), but it's hardly an issue when the music is this strong. And though "Let the Wind Erase Me" is the first single, any of these ten tracks are just as worthy of that honor. "I feel insignificant, never have I ever felt so small," Shear bellows in "Infinite." He has also never sounded so confident. ~ Kenyon Hopkin Assemblage 23 Storm Songs Storm Music Review Average Rating: (3.8 out of 5 stars) Addictive,, Enchanting, Entrancing... This A23 release sounds like a cross between Depeche Mode, Camouflage and Cause & Effect with more a trance beat. If you like those bands, you will enjoy this CD. Not must diversity track-to-track though. I especially enjoy Track #3. Submitted by realsoda (Newport Beach, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
This album should have been titled Failure I just got this CD a few weeks ago and I gave it a long chance to grow on me. I love all of his other CD's and all the many remixes but this one? It just seems rushed and not very well put together. Maybe it's because I prefer A23's darker stuff but this one seemed more like elevator music to me.
Not what I would have expected from and artist who up till now seemed to be growing. Submitted by Negative (Houston, Texas) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
I can dig it I really enjoyed this album.it's not quite as good as "Defiance" or "Failure",but it has its moments.Standout tracks would have to be "Skin","You haven't earned it" and "30kft".I wouldn't listen to "30kft",on a cross-country flight either.but Tom really knows how to make great music.Recommended Submitted by John (Asheville,NC) Was This Review Helpful? A Cd that will grow on you I am a fairly new Assemblage 23 fan, but I have to say this cd has become one of my favorites. I hear it is Tom Shear's best cd so far and I would have to agree. Storm is more upbeat with a positive spin that really leaves you thinking. I love listening to this guys lyrics. Very deep and thought provoking. Stop reading this cd and go buy it! Able to be listened to. I give it a 3 and a half for real but I kinda can't give the half points but anyways, I loved the crap out of Defiance and I was looking forward to this cd surpassing it..fat chance, it's a step down for them but it's still pretty good. Check out Human, Let the Wind Erase Me, You Haven't Earned It, and 30kft(this is one of the most depressing songs I've ever heard). I'd suggest you all try out Defiance, much better. Laters. Storm
$13.89 Personnel: John Surman (bass clarinet). Disappeared is the sound of drum'n'bass dissected, blended with a spy movie score, and given the acidic, demonic twist of a carnival sideshow. It's also Spring Heel Jack's best album. It's no surprise that the album draws comparisons to John Barry film scores, as Spring Heel Jack seems to consist of card-carrying members of a 007 fan club, but they pull out all the stops here, producing muscular spy movie music that seems extracted from Hades itself. Devastating, bleak, and intensely powerful melodies wail and storm, jazzy fuzz-box jungle notes twist in the air, and trumpets seem to assert that the forces of darkness have been let loose. Ambient noodlings and screeches cause tension and chills. "Mit Wut" is ominous and fierce big-band electronica. Sci-fi alarms ring out ...

$10.59 Killswitch Engage: Mike D'Antonio (bass guitar); Howard Jones, Adam Dutkiewicz, Justin Foley , Joel Stroetzel . Personnel: Adam Dutkiewicz (vocals, guitar, percussion); Howard Jones (vocals); Joel Stroetzel (guitar); Justin Foley (drums); Philip Labonte (background vocals). Audio Mixer: Andy Sneap. Recording information: Zing Studios, Westfield, MA (12/15/2003-01/29/2004). Photographer: Mike D'Antonio. By fusing the best elements of American metalcore and European melodic death metal (i.e., the Gothenburg school), Massachusetts' Killswitch Engage achieved what hundreds of nu-metal bands only dreamed of: supplying American heavy metal with a viable facelift with which to set itself to rights in the new millennium. The fact that in order to do this they relied on songs with actual substance, not fabricated image or false pretense, goes to the heart of 2002's stunning Alive or Just Breathing's success, as well as its masterful successor, 2004's much anticipated The End of Heartache. Indeed, little has changed from one album to the next, which can be viewed as a positive or a negative, depending on the listener. But with distinctive songwriting and that delicate but explosive dynamic balance between melody and abrasiveness still readily on display in pace-setting openers "A Bid Farewell" and "Take This Oath," the former seems more likely. Track number three, the excellent "When Darkness Falls," is where Killswitch will convince most lingering cynics, and the ensuing "Rose of Sharyn" is arguably the group's most accessible single yet (and also possibly a bone of contention for fans of their harder stuff). Next up, the mild-mannered interlude "Inhale" is actually a warning for the breathtaking power riffing of "Breathe Life," after which the all-encompassing title track really hammers one out of the ...
