Wyclef Jean's musical tribute to his native Haiti is the mix of R&B, soca, hip-hop, and reggae you'd expect from this eclectic artist. Most of the songs are also sung in Creole, a notable exception being the hypnotic "President," with its macabre nursery-rhyme refrain "If I was president, I'd get elected on Friday, assassinated on Saturday, buried on Sunday, back to work on Monday," a neat confluence of Haitian magic and American political realism. The tranquil "Douce," with its sultry backing vocals, is a slow-burner, while the celebratory "Fistibal-Festival" is perhaps the most typically Caribbean of the tracks on offer here. But Jean's political message and his dance-floor aspirations find their smoothest blend on upbeat dance tracks "Fanm Kreyol" and "Haitian Mafia" (which features Foxy Brown), offering irresistible beats and rapid-fire Creole exhortations that bypass the synapses and go straight for the hips.
Includes an untitled hidden track on track #17.

INCREDIBLE ALBUM! I just happened across this album and after listening to track samples, had to buy it. Now that I have it, I can easily say it is one of the BEST albums out of the thousands I own. In my opinion, a perfect album. A fantastic mix of sounds and every song is excellent so you are just raised up and thrilled with every track. A mix of carribean, latin, dancehall, hip-hop, reggaeton... AWESOME. I am now a huge Wyclef Jean fan and am so happy he made this album. BUY it and you WILL LOVE IT! Welcome To Haiti: Creole 101 songs
$11.59 Keeping tabs on the actions of Ypsilanti, MI-based MC One Be Lo hasn't been a snap. Known previously as OneManArmy, he was part of Binary Star, a group responsible for 1999's Waterworld. An excellent underground rap album, it was hard find outside the Detroit area, until it was overhauled, retitled as Masters of the Universe, and re-released with national distribution. Binary Star then split. The former Raland Scruggs, who took the name Nashid Sulaiman after converting to Islam, switched his stage name from OneManArmy to One Be Lo for a 2002 solo album that didn't do his skills justice. Three years later, he resurfaced with S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M., his first release to be issued with major-label backing. He has a three-album deal, but you're left to believe after one play-through of this disc that he's letting loose with all that he has, as if it's his last chance to be heard. The album is 79 minutes in ...

Welcome To Haiti: Creole 101 album
$8.55 A gritty fairy tale of dreams deferred, HUSTLE & FLOW infuses the torpor of the Memphis ghetto with electric tension. Terrence Howard delivers the performance of a lifetime as DJay, a pimp and drug dealer eking out an existence with his three whores, one of whom, Shug (Taraji P. Henson, HOLLA), is hugely pregnant. Nola (Taryn Manning, 8 MILE) turns tricks from the backseat of DJay's beater, while Lexus (Paula Jai Parker, LOVE CHRONICLES), the hustler's high-maintenance girlfriend, strips in a cellar-like club. DJay's dissatisfaction is increasing as he senses that life has nothing more in store for him, but a chance encounter with an old school friend, Key (Anthony Anderson, KING'S RANSOM), reignites his musical ...

| | Mary J Blige My Life CD (1994)
Welcome To Haiti: Creole 101 music CDs
$10.45 MY LIFE was nominated for a 1996 Grammy Award for Best R&B Album.
The immediate success of her triple-platinum debut WHAT'S THE 411? put Mary J. Blige in a singular class as a soul-hop visionary, and opened the door for other hip-hop-influenced R&B acts. Yet as the follow-up approached, the nature of her talent began to be questioned, and the strength of her debut became an obstacle.
If Blige heard all those rumors, she must've decided that musical revenge is the best payback of all. Thus, MY LIFE comes across as another ground-breaking venture, linking R&B's new and old schools, filling the airwaves with delightful harmonies AND hip-hop samples. When Blige connects with her music's roots, she doesn't pussy-foot around soul's ...
