Sinatra's wide range of collaborators is as impressive as the quality of the material. Pulp's Jarvis Cocker contributes the lush pop ballad "Don't Let Him Waste Your Time" and the country-flavored "Baby's Coming Back to Me." U2's "Two Shots of Happy, One Shot of Sad" (originally written for her father Frank) is particularly well suited to Sinatra, as is Pete Yorn's bright, ironic "Don't Mean Nothing." Overall, the singer translates impressively to a contemporary "alternative" context, making NANCY SINATRA a comeback album to bridge styles, tastes, and generations.

Nancy Sinatra's eponymous 2004 release mixes the old and the new in intriguing, refreshing ways. Sinatra's alto, which pours over melodies like a dry martini, is still intact, though time has replaced some of her cheekiness with sincerity. The "new" arrives in the form of contemporary songwriters and performers, some of whom were still in diapers when Sinatra had her '60s hits. These include indie upstarts Calexico, electronica act Reno, and former Pussy Galore member Jon Spencer, who lends deep-down vocals to the funky rocker "Ain't No Easy Way."

Personnel: Nancy Sinatra (vocals); Jon Spencer (vocals, guitar, percussion); Morrissey, Bono (vocals); Pete Yorn (harmonica, bass guitar, drums); Thurston Moore (bass guitar).

Rolling Stone (p.97) - 3 1/2 stars out of 5 - "It's a grand meeting between a star and her fans, as Sinatra proves she's not the end of the family line."
Spin (p.98) - "[Sinatra has] a light, ductile weirdness, and nearly all the contributing acolytes here play to it well." - Grade: B
Entertainment Weekly (p.74) - "Frank's girl willingly wraps her smoky, weathered vocals around characteristically well-written tracks..." - Grade: B

5 stars Always Contemporary Nancy!!! Nancy Rocks!
This album is absolutely wonderful. Nancy Sinatra has always been a little different from all other artists, unafraid to sing rebellious songs and try new formats. This album proves that even in her mature years, Nancy is as hot as ever... if not hotter. Among the best songs are "Let Me Kiss You," "Burnin' Down The Spark," and my personal favorite, "Baby Please Don't Go." The only track that makes me a little uncomfortable is "Momma's Boy," which with its disonant chords, would be hard to listen to by any artist. But this album, as a whole, is INOVATIVE, ENTERTAINING, CLEVER, CATCHY, ARTSY, and most importantly of all, a whole lot of FUN. It has hit written all over it, if people will just LISTEN...

5 stars True legends are back!
Between this new release by Nancy Sinatra and all the releases being issued through EMI Gold on Vikki Carr, I know true adult contemporary music is finally making a comeback. Nancy's voice has matured and it reflects that on this release. 5 stars to real stars who still have the voice, now it's up to us to appreciate and support great music!

5 stars Nancy Shines
Often noted as Nancy's comeback CD by the media, it's nothing of the sort. She hasn't gone anywhere and the tracks on this CD prove that she is better than ever. Featuring songs by Morrisey, Jon Spencer, Calexico, Jarvis Cocker, Pete Yorn, Steven Van Zandt, Bono, AJ and Matt Azzarto and Reno, along with Tom Lilly and Lenny Cordolla, this CD rocks! Nancy's voice takes you away without the tricks of techno gadgetry or over orchastrated material. It is simply what it is, and that is pure and pleasurable. You won't think of Nancy as only the "Boots" singer after listening to this music. She takes each song, regardless of the style and makes it her own. There definitley is some chart material here and well deserved. "NANCY SINATRA" is... Pure magic.

Of the numerous various-artist compilation CDs that have attempted to anthologize the recordings of the late '40s and early '50s most crucial to planting the seeds for rock & roll, this three-CD, 60-song set is probably the most definitive. Most prior collections along these lines have failed to present a truly comprehensive picture of rock & roll's roots, whether due ...

My True Story
Big Fat Pet Clams From Outer Space My True Story CD  (2008)

Nancy Sinatra music CDs
CD $11.49
Probably the most obscure, but possibly the best of the underground bands that came out of the punk rock explosion that emerged from New York’s lower east side a quarter of a century ago; the Pet Clams' star-crossed history prevented them from ever receiving the kind of recognition their music deserved. “My True Story” is the first complete work finished by the complete band since the release of “the Pet Clams” in 1981 on CBS. This is the definitive work by a band who for almost thirty years has contended for the imaginary title of “the best band you never heard of.” Three very good songwriters, a great guitarist, and the unique voice of Richard Gelbstein combine to produce an unexpectedly powerful recording. This collection begins with “eight miles low”. The Byrds’ classic it is based on starts with that band leaving LAX for London; here the Clams are coming down in the rain in Newark, New Jersey. You get the impression that they are retreating from some monumental failure, arguing amongst themselves about what might have been. If “eight miles high” was a drug song (it wasn’t) it would have been about acid and amphetamine. If “eight miles low” is a drug song it’s about bourbon and burgundy. We do not find out until later just what the band might be escaping from. The song decays into “I belong to her” which sets the tone of the record. Musically atmospheric , it lyrically describes an obsessive love. The singer is compelled to remain in an unrewarding affair, but he seems to grow stronger, not weaker, from the pain. The scene shifts in “this is not my life” to the dressing room under the stage at CBGB and the monotony of the wait between sound check and performance. We begin to form a picture of an ageing punk rocker going through the motions without really knowing why. The keyboard and guitar work dominate the music over a repeating, thudding bassline. The song finishes with a muddled conversation until ...
