The Scottish film Dear Frankie is about a single mother of a deaf child who has run away from her husband but tells her son that his father is off on a ship, and even writes fictitious letters to maintain the fantasy. For his score to such an intimate drama, composer Alex Heffes constructs a lot of quiet, pretty melodic cues dominated by solo piano passages, and the soundtrack adds a few gentle folk-rock tunes by Clarksville, Obi, and Jesse Harris. Attractive on its own terms, the music helps set the film's tone and the soundtrack album makes for an excellent souvenir of the moviegoing experience. ~ William Ruhlmann

| Dear Frankie Soundtrack Music Review Average Rating: (3.8 out of 5 stars) Evocation Splendid. I'm listening to it right now. The piano and strings, along with the snippets of the little boy's voice from the movie...all of it combined evokes emotions not only from the movie but from your own life experiences as well. It's moving music (as all music should be)...absolutely beautiful, and the last track "Reprise" makes you repeat the whole soundtrack all over again. ENJOY! Why? I've never understood why all the music, original score and any other songs that a movie contains, isn't included when a soundtrack of the movie is released. The two major songs of this movie that I liked weren't even included on this soundtrack. I really liked the movie. The song which is sung by Emily Mortimer's character while she and Sharon Small, the Stranger's sister, and Nell (the mother) are sitting on the couch (drinking/celebrating) isn't even on the soundtrack. It's also the song that Emily and Gerard dance to in the movie. I feel that song was a very pivitol song in the movie and should have been included on the soundtrack Also, the Hallelujah song, which was sung in the movie (I think it was when Frankie and the Stranger were together in the fish store looking at the seahorses in the aquarium). That song isn't included either. If I'd have known this information beforehand I most probably wouldn't have purchased/wasted my money on this CD. Loved the movie, the CD soundtrack not so much at all. Submitted by sharonahcph (St. Louis, MO) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Dear Frankie is a HIT!!!!! ***** I sighed. I cried. I loved the character development, the beautiful story and the acting. This is a lovely film based on the life of a sweet little boy and his protective mother. I can relate to this story having been a protective mother myself. This is a film worth seeing again and again. I am only sad that this film was shown in art theaters therefore bypassing the general audience who would have LOVED it! I hope this film will receive the recognition it deserves in time. Go Gerry!

A Lovely Show Dear Frankie was a sad show, but a touching one. Frankie develops as a person and so does his delicate mother. She learns to trust while Frankie grows up. Worth seeing over and over Submitted by gurlsccer (Spokane, WA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
