| | Best Of The Blues Vol. 2 CD
This second volume in Sanctuary's Best of the Blues series is an eclectic little gem of a compilation. Opening with the gritty, rocking "Shake Your Money Maker" by slide guitar great Elmore James, the disc's sequence moves through classic Chicago blues (the 1954 Chess single of "I'm Ready" by Muddy Waters), British blues ("If You Be My Baby" from a Peter Green-era Fleetwood Mac and "When the Devil Starts Crying" from John Mayall), soul blues (Robert Cray's "Phone Booth"), and all blues points in between before coming to a close with Jimmy Reed's ragged shuffle classic "Bright Lights, Big City." Other delights here include the huge swampy blues of Tony Joe White on "Steamy Windows," an inspired pairing of Lonnie Mack and Stevie Ray Vaughan on "If You Have to Know" (from 1985), and an irresistible snort of boogie from Snooky Pryor ("Shake Your Boogie"). If there is a complaint here, it is that the album seems a bit short, but its 12 tracks were obviously carefully and lovingly chosen, and given the wide range of styles represented, it displays a remarkable coherence. Plus it rocks like a pile driver. ~ Steve Leggett Best Of The Blues Vol. 2 Music Best Of The Blues Vol. 2 Songs | 1. | Shake Your Moneymaker - Elmore James |

Sonny and his band, the Sonny Moorman Group were semi-finalists in the 2006 International Blues Challenge, and their CD “Crossroads Motel” was a semi-finalist entry in the IBC’s 2006 Best Self-Produced CD competition.here's a review from the Cincinnati Post November 16, 2006Moorman soars unplugged on new CD By Rick BirdPost staff reporter For almost 15 years now, Sonny Moorman has been known as the area's premier electric blues rocker. Now he can lay claim to one of the finest local acoustic blues artists around with a new solo set, "Sonny Moorman: Live at the Cincy Blues Fest." Moorman has always done the occasional solo acoustic gigs but is more known for his classic electric guitar power trio with Marc Hoffmann (bass) and Dave Fair (drums). Moorman said he recorded his solo set at the July blues fest intending to use a couple pieces in a planned live double CD featuring the trio."It came out so good it got to be its own record," said Moorman, who indicated he still plans a double CD/DVD release with his full group next year. Moorman is at his angsty best on classic blues tunes such as "Kind Hearted Woman Blues," "Crossroad Blues" and "Statesboro Blues," and he reworks a great version of his autobiographical "Cincinnati Shuffle."On the CD, he's much more experimental, using four different styles of guitars, including ...
