Mary performs an intimate concert before a packed house at Los Angeles' House of Blues nightclub. With many celebrities in the house, she provides the audience with an honest story of her life. Audience members making appearances include Rachel Hunter, Lil Kim, Jack & Kelly Osbourne, Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson, as well as P.Diddy and Ellen DeGeneres. Sting and Elton John also join Mary on stage in several songs. The sublime vocal stylings of Mary J. Blige have won over an impressively large and dedicated following. Her subtle blend of R&B and hip hop appeals to a diverse selection of listeners, and her live shows provide ample opportunity for Blige to show off her amazing range. I bought mary j blige DVD a few months ago I must say I was blown away with this powerful performance I can't begin to decribe the feeling I got when watching this dvd I cried, I have many many DVD and I must tell you this is my favorite dvd Mary gives her all she put her heart and soul into her performance and it all so natural. My Husband who does not know much about Mary J Blige when he watched it he's comments was I take my hat of to this women she the queen in her field of work wow how comes I did not listen to her before. This is also his favorite dvd.

Hello, my name is George W. L. Greer, and I would like to give my personal review on Mary J. Blige's performance in The House of Blues!
I really enjoyed the performance, it provided all of the top quality musical tones needed! The evening of entertainment provided class, style, and grace! The background singers, the musicians, and the entertainers, performed at a high level of intensity, that helped the audience feel the meaning of SOUL!
I say the song selections were the best, as well as the special guests for the evening! The total performance of Mary J. Blige's concert for the evening is ranked very high! I give the DVD 5 stars!
The DVD is a must to have, in any entertainers personal collection!

Growing up among Afro-Americans in Berkeley, CA, Greek-American Johnny Otis (born John Veliotes) always identified strongly with people of color. Before he had attained the age of 20 he was gigging with black jazz bands throughout the Southwest, and eventually organized an ensemble deliberately patterned after Count Basie's orchestra. This highly charged album of historical musical artifacts documents the very beginning of Johnny Otis' recording career. With one apparently unobtainable exception, the Classics Blues & Rhythm Series has assembled all of Otis' Excelsior recordings, made in Los Angeles between 1945 and 1947. This provides background and context for his more well-known Savoy material, and indeed for everything this amazing person accomplished during the second half of the 20th century. Otis' first act as a recording bandleader was to borrow Jimmy Rushing from Count Basie! Rushing sounds right at home with this group, which included tenor saxophonist Paul Quinichette, pianist Bill Doggett, and bassist Curtis Counce.
