Beyond MelrozeWe are a musically dynamic husband/wife duo playing a combination of pop, rock, blues, and Flamenco music that varies from a 1930s sound to the sounds of the present to the sounds of the future with our own fusion. My husband, David Bell, and myself, Joy Bell, wrote, performed and produced all of this music. We are both in our early 30s and have been playing music to various degrees for about 20some years. David is a multi-instrumentalist. He plays steel string acoustic guitar, nylon string Flamenco guitar, and electric guitar, bass and drums. He is extremely talented and has played for several local recording projects. I am a classically trained singer. I sing lead vocals, background vocals and choir parts on this CD and sing 4 plus part harmony with about a 3 to 4 octave vocal range. I also play some acoustic guitar parts and do a great kazoo solo on Bells Ringing. Usually, David writes the music and I write the melody and lyrics, but we do switch those roles occasionally. Joe Williams emerged as a jazz/blues singer of the first rank on the 1950 Verve album, COUNT BASIE PLAYS... JOE WILLIAMS SINGS, which, not coincidentally, established the newly refurbished Basie band--the so-called "New Testament" edition--as an up-to-date force to be reckoned with. On this well-produced Roulette title from 1959, Williams and the band reprise their former hit "Everyday I Have The Blues" as a swinging kick-off to an exuberant set of familiar blues and R&B standards.
