Skye Sweetnam got her big break at an early age when her teen-rebellion anthem "Billy S." was tapped to appear on the soundtrack for the Mandy Moore film HOW TO DEAL. With interest in the young Canadian piqued, the youthful rocker entered the studio with expert producers, and emerged with her debut, NOISE FROM THE BASEMENT, a perfect mix of affable pop sensibility and nascent punk angst suffused with sunshine.
As one might expect, most of the themes regard the difficulties of growing up, finding love, and uncovering hidden emotions. Like Avril Lavigne and Ashlee Simpson, Sweetnam was schooled in the edgier side of rock & roll, and even the most radio-ready tracks, especially the runaway hit single "Tangled Up in Me," hold a sense of chaotic spark within. Sweetnam's lyrics, on the other hand, cling to a sense of innocence absent in the music of many maturing teen-pop sensations. Songs with titles such as "Hypocrite" and "It Sucks" flow out of Sweetnam in an unfiltered and honest way. Given all its restless energy, NOISE FROM THE BASEMENT captures the spirit of a young artist discovering herself.
Personnel: Skye Sweetnam (vocals); James Robertson (various instruments); Tim VanDerKuil (guitar); Damon "Day" Wilson, Andrew Martino (drums); Jeremy Wheatley (programming, background vocals).

Noise From The Basement Music Noise From The Basement Music Review Average Rating: (4.6 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Awesome This is one of my favorite albums. Skye Sweetnam shows that she can rock - even at the oh so tender age of 14 when she was signed on. Her songs are rebellious, catchy and spirited. The beats and guitar riffs, not to mention Skye's mature-for-her-age voice will get you hooked on Skye's aerabic rock music. In my opinion - better than Avril. Skye's here to say. Brilliant Debut Album Every song on this is good, even on the first listen.
The stand-out tracks for me, besides the first three tracks (The Singles that were released), are ''I Don't Really Like You and ''Unpredictable''.
Skye sweetnam is a very refreshing music artist and her songs are really fast and creative. Submitted by Liam (Strabane, Northern Ireland) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Skye is the best She's so different from most of the other artists, her songs are so unique, that's the word. In fact, this is not a cd with a few good songs, all songs are great. My favorites are fallen through, unpredictable and hypocrite, in this song she talks about avril. I like Avril, but there's something special about Skye! She rox! Skye High! Amazing!!!! better than i expected. Her free-spirit way of singing knocks avril of her feet. Try to listen to Fallen Through and I dont really like you.... you can say the price is cheaper than the satisfaction you get in hearing this album. i cant wait for her sophomore album.!!!! Noise From The Basement album
$9.79 This limited edition of WARNING contains a 64-page booklet. It is packaged in a digipack in a green plastic bag.
To debate whether or not Green Day truly was or is a punk band in the purest definition of the punk ethic now seems irrelevant. If nothing else, they're a pop band who can't seem to help but write good songs--in the case of WARNING, some really good songs. This album makes up for any missteps the band may have taken since the fluke success of DOOKIE.
From the Katrina And The Waves groove of "Castaway" to the Beatles-esque harmonica on "Hold ...
| | Diamanda Galas Plague Mass (1984 End Of The Epidemic) CD (1991)
Noise From The Basement CD music
$10.69 Diamanda Galas, who has been known for both her own work and as a singer of extremely demanding modern scores, created this heart-wrenching cry about the physical suffering caused by the AIDS plague being compounded by the shameful arrogance of self-appointed moralists. Maintaining an incredible intensity and depth for over an hour's solo vocal (recorded live at The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, NYC, with suitably minimal band and electronics backup), Galas proceeds through Mahalia Jackson-influenced spiritual singing, saxophone-like wails, to dramatic dialogues in many dialects and languages ("there are no more tickets to the funeral") to engrossing Portuguese fado ...
| | Good Charlotte Young And The Hopeless CD (2002) DualDisc
Noise From The Basement music CDs
$15.89 This is a DualDisc, which contains a CD on one side of the disc and a DVD on the other.
For its second outing THE YOUNG AND THE HOPELESS, Good Charlotte gives any notion of a sophomore jinx a combative boot to the side of the head thanks to an abundance of chanting choruses and choppy guitar riffs. Like standard-bearers Blink-182, this Maryland quartet frolics in a land ...
| | Garbage Bleed Like Me CD (2005) Enhanced CD
Noise From The Basement songs
$12.59 Garbage's mantra for BLEED LIKE ME could be "that which doesn't kill you only makes you stronger," given the emotional and creative upheaval this unit went through in the four years that elapsed between this disc and 2001's BEAUTIFUL GARBAGE. Following personal conflicts and health woes for both Butch Vig and Shirley Manson, the quartet stripped down its sound and amped up the guitars to ...
| | Belphegor Pestapokalypse VI CD (2006)
Noise From The Basement album
$12.29 Along with raging against the Catholic Church and promoting the apocalypse in the name of their ol' buddy Satan, Austria's Belphegor have always prided themselves on delivering the most brutal, lightning-fast combination of death and black metal imaginable -- over and over again, album after album. 2006's Pestapokalypse VI is yet another example of this enterprise; opening with a track that's helpfully entitled "Belphegor -- Hell's Ambassador," before unleashing a veritable ...

| | Aterciopelados Evolucion CD (2002)
Noise From The Basement album
$8.29 Rock en español is exactly that, rock in Spanish, unless there's something beyond language to set it apart. And that's what makes Colombia's Aterciopelados so special. They're very firmly aware of their roots, and bring them in often, to good effect in their music. This best-of collection traces ten years of music, and Aterciopelados' evolution from a good alternative rock band to a group with a real vision. It really all kicks in with "La Estaca," which shows that the passion that occurs in ranchera and rock can be combined in music, then with tracks from 1996's La Pipa de la Paz, which was musically adventurous, not just ...

| | Hiromi Brain CD (2004)
Noise From The Basement songs
$10.65 This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
Japanese pianist and composer Hiromi Uehara dazzled the jazz world with her 2003 debut, Another Mind. Its mash of keyboard pyrotechnics and range of compositional styles was multiplied exponentially by her irrepressible energy. On that set she used variously sized ensembles to articulate her compositions. On Brain, Hiromi strips it back to a trio and offers a more intimate look at her wide musical universe, utilizing drummer Martin Valihora, bassist Tony Grey (both fellow Berklee College of Music alums), and alternately bassist Anthony Jackson. The album opens with the wacky "Kung-Fu World Champion" with its mélange of sequenced keyboards. It's a fusion tune to be sure, ...
