Heavy-hitting DJ Norman Cook (AKA Fatboy Slim) brings the Big Beat back on 2004's PALOOKAVILLE, a record that rivals Cook's previous efforts for imagination, groove, and fun. Cook's particular skill lies in creating a collage of genres from his seemingly never-ending vault of vinyl, bringing them all under one happy, party-time umbrella. The lead-off track, "Don't Let the Man Get You Down," for example, blends gospel vocals, Latin-tinged polyrhythms, and a snippet from Five Man Electrical Band's "Signs," with flashes of robotic IDM sounds, for good measure.
PALOOKAVILLE is a bit more textured and chilled-out than Cook's earlier albums. The acoustic-guitar-based "Put It Back Together," for instance, sounds like the clubby equivalent of a campfire sing-along. "North West Three" is based around the refrain of John Martyn's folky "Primrose Hill," and is true to the feel of the source, despite Cook's additional edits and beats. On the disc's most notable track, "The Joker," Cook re-imagines Steve Miller's hit as a piano-laden funk tune with the one-and-only Bootsy Collins on vocals. This is not to say the record doesn't feature Slim's infectious techno beats, however. The nervous, skittering "Slash Dot Dash" and the distorted, bass-heavy "Long Way from Home" prove PALOOKAVILLE packs a serious punch.

Fatboy Slim Palookaville Songs Palookaville Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) The Fatboy Does It Again! I first got into Fatboy Slim when I heard Rockafella Skank aka Funk Soul Brother because the first is too hard to pronounce, on my Now 3 CD. Yes, thats right Now 3. What are they at now? I think it's Now 11. That song just grabbed me and pulled be into a vortex tha got me in to a lot of techno\dance music. I again, listened to more of his songs, and found tem excellent pieces of work. before Half Way Between The Gutter and The Stars came out, I thought he would never be able to top The Rockafella Skank, and to me I think he tied. Which is still good because Rockafella was like an International Smash. Ya Mama, was great on the Charlies Angels II Soundtrack, and I had "Raise the Tempo" stuck in my head for days. Now he has come out with a whole new fatboy. We here less of a computer-generated and more of a human fatboy slim picking up the beats on this CD. And I love it too! It's excellent work, from start to finish. I think his cover of "The Journey" was awesome! Slash Dot Dash provides songs for everyone who miss the trance music of Rockafella Skank. It provides, so listen! Submitted by Brad (Half Way Between The Gutter and The Stars) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Keane Hopes & Fears CD (2004)
Palookaville songs
$11.89 Often compared to countrymen Coldplay and Radiohead, the UK-based trio Keane plays a similarly majestic, sweeping blend of pop-informed rock music. Fueling the comparisons is the fact that lead vocalist Tom Chaplin makes heavy use of the same kind of Jeff Buckley-esque falsetto and emotion-filled wails favored by Chris Martin and Thom Yorke. On HOPES AND FEARS's epic tracks such as "She Has No Time," however, Keane takes the more dramatic elements of the aforementioned bands' sounds and magnifies them, creating piano- and synthesizer-driven cinematic soundscapes dripping with quiet heartache and existential angst. In addition, Keane incorporates minimalist trip-hop ...

Palookaville album
$15.05 HEADHUNTER 2000 is a collection of remixes of the band's 1989 HEADHUNTER album.
A collection of 17 different remixes of the same song may seem a bit extreme, but nobody said it couldn't ever be done. Headhunter 2000 actually compiles the contents of four different CD singles in one place as a convenience for American buyers, and while only the most hardcore Front 242 fan would necessarily want it, it still has some definite winners. "Headhunter" itself, of course, is Front 242's trademark song and always will be, so if you're going to have a project like this in the first place, might as well go for the best, in this case in its "2000" version with slightly different lyrics, first introduced on Live Code. Most of the remixes keep the stuttering mock-string ...

Palookaville songs
$13.95 Album number three from the young lads known as McFly was titled Motion in the Ocean, and late in 2006 it was difficult to tell whether or not the lads still had it. It was true that the big hit singles were still being churned out with frightening regularity, if not number ones then all pretty close, "Star Girl" and "Baby's Coming Back" (which wasn't included on the album along with "Transylvania," which was) both chart-toppers, but McFly singles were beginning to develop a pattern of entering high on the chart, only to plummet the ...
