(3 Customer Reviews)
John Waite has reinvented himself several times throughout his lengthy career. First starting off as leader of the melodic rock outfit the Babys, Waite then went the 'adult pop' route of his solo career (the massive hit "Missing You"), before joining up with a few Journey alumni for the best-forgotten supergroup, Bad English. Afterwards, Waite continued on his merry way as a solo artist -- revisiting the same direction that made him well-known to the MTV masses back in the '80s, especially on his 2004 release, The Hard Way. Exactly what you'd expect from Waite in this stage of the game, Hard Way sees Waite continuing with what he's done well all along -- songs that focus largely on relationships (the album opening title track, the ballad "Always Be Your Man," etc.) -- while his voice remains in fine form. If you dug such past Waite favorites as 1982's Ignition and 1984's No Brakes, you're sure to enjoy The Hard Way. In fact, stylistically, it would have fit in perfectly as the follow-up release to the two aforementioned titles. ~ Greg Prato

John Waite Hard Way Songs Hard Way Music Review Average Rating: (3.3 out of 5 stars) John Waite is still a good songwriter John do some nice songs here. Surprisingly there is a bluesy rocksong with slideguitar a plenty called " Keys to your heart". Also a acoustic remake of "Missing you" which win with every playing. Nothing earthshaking here but a nice cd from an underrrating musician. Submitted by brechtelr (FÜRTH, GERMANY) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
An acoustic, stripped down John Waite Although most of the tracks are previously released(in John's "Figure in a landscape" cd of 2001),most fans will be pleased to hear 3 new tracks here.. Submitted by blackstar (Athens,Greece) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Some Re-recorded tracks and Killer new ones! I recently saw him in concert where he did 3 of these songs on this disc and they just plain rocked, his voice never faltered. On this cd (produced by John) there are 5 remixed or redone tracks from his “figure in a landscape” disc, and they are all good. There is a blend of rock tracks and slow insightful songs typical of the way that only john can write them and sing them. The mix is typical of his past 3 discs; his vocals are right upfront on the mix front and center (right where they should be), giving his albums a personal feeling. After almost 30 years he has not lost a bit of his edge, he can still rock, he can still write pop songs and slower ballads, here he covers allot of ground here too. He is an under rated LEGEND in a business full of performers that don’t even write their on music. With lyrics he is a poet, he is emotional, and after meeting him in person (oh yes!!) I can say he is for REAL. The Hard Way is the PROOF. Submitted by homer j (bangor pa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Rick Springfield Shock/Denial/Anger/Acceptance CD (2004)
Hard Way album
$10.45 Long before Rick Springfield was a soapie star on American television or riding the U.S. charts with the pop/rock of "Jessie's Girl" and "Don't Talk to Strangers," the Australian-born heartthrob played rock & roll with a variety of bands in his country of origin. The most successful of those outfits, the Zoot, scored a hit in 1969 with a heavy'n'gritty version of the Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby." At times during Shock/Denial/Anger/Acceptance, you can hear Springfield digging down to those rugged roots. The pop sensibilities are still intact, but from the opening bars of the first track, "Perfect," the guitars are tougher and Springfield's voice huskier than many fans might recall. The cover of the Easybeats classic "I'll Make You Happy" would, on paper, look like a tired choice by an artist who's a song short, but when the ultra hard rock showers down like apocalyptic rain, it's clear that ...

Hard Way album
$29.09 One of the unfortunate side effects of James Lavelle's conversion from genre-crafting label head to superstar DJ is the fact that his once lauded UNKLE musical project has been sidelined, with its Never, Never, Land album being completely overlooked by both music press and fans. But never one to let the scene landscape dictate his terms, Lavelle simply plays his strongest hand, filling his second globetrotting DJ set for Global Underground with ten carnations of his UNKLE muse, either with production or remix credits. ...
| | Lorien Quest CD (2005)
Hard Way CD music
$10.15 Music Review from Hypatia's Hoard http:// spicygreeniguana / February 2002 issue.by Elizabeth Barrettereprinted with permission from the authorQuest (1998) and Waterline (2000) by Lorien. Four stars. These two albums showcase the developing talents of Lorien, a remarkable lady whose style blends influences from Celtic, folk, and filk music and the Society for Creative Anachronism. Her sweetly expressive voice and haunting, beautiful guitar playing combine to sweep you off your feet. She also has a deft touch with lyrics; much of the content is original, and the music follows along with subtle grace. Once you hear these, you'll be clamoring for more. Quest introduces a couple of characters, Rorik and Karina, who take an even larger role in the next album. Meet them in "Desert Wind" and "Rorik & the Edge of the World." I'm also partial to the reverent "Lady of the Ocean" and the coursing hunger of "The Hunt" (lyrics ...
