Lynne Arriale Trio: Jay Anderson (double bass); Lynne Arriale, Steve Davis. Personnel: Lynne Arriale (piano); Steve Davis (drums). Audio Mixer: Steve Davis. Recording information: Steve Davis Studios (2004). Photographers: Jimmy Boyd ; Andrew Lepley. Arrangers: Lynne Arriale; Steve Davis. The Lynne Arriale Trio celebrate their tenth anniversary with the release of Come Together. This collection features six originals composed by the pianist along with stellar covers of the Beatles' "Come Together," the Scottish classic "Red Is the Rose," and "Iko Iko" from the film titled The Big Easy. Lynne Arriale's classical essence is very apparent on "Flamenco." She offers an irresistible landscape of captivating flamenco rhythms merged with distinct classical/jazz elements. "Sea and Sand" and "Twilight" both provide the perfect respite from the up-tempo burner "Sunburst" and its spontaneous riffs. On these beautiful ballads, the melodies and her improvisations are pensive and create an imaginative aura of relaxation. Arriale's piano proficiency continues to play the starring role in this wonderful trio, but with the aid of Steve Davis on drums and Jay Anderson on acoustic bass, together they present a beautiful jazz program that results in a surprising fresh new sound. ~ Paula Edelstein

Come Together
$6.39 The Corrs: Jim Corr (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Sharon Corr (vocals, violin); Andrea Corr (vocals, tin whistle); Caroline Corr (vocals, drums, bodhran, percussion). Recorded at Ardmore Studios in Dublin, Ireland in January 2002. You knew the Corrs had made it when they played the final JFK Awards ceremony of the Clinton administration. Playing it would have been achievement enough, but their status as a happening thing was cemented at the end of the ceremony, during the encores, when everybody was taking their final bows. Bill moseyed up over to Andrea, put his arm around her, and when she was looking away, sized her up -- at precisely the same moment Chuck Berry was checking her out. If that doesn't mean that you've broken America, entering ...
| | Brad Mehldau Live In Tokyo CD (2004)
Come Together
$15.39 Personnel: Brad Mehldau (piano); Brad Mehldau. Recording information: Sumida Triphony Hall, Tokyo, Japan. Photographers: Ye Rin Mok; Michael "Mick" Wilson. Moving ever closer to becoming his generation's Keith Jarrett, Live in Tokyo finds pianist Brad Mehldau delving into a solo piano performance in February of 2003 with a quiet intensity, mixing a kind of studied jazz formalism with a lyrical "train-of-thought" avant-gardism. Ever the iconoclast, Mehldau tackles such varied compositions as Nick Drake's "Things Behind the Sun," ...

| | Lynne Arriale Live CD (2006)
Come Together
$31.95 Like 2000s Live at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Lynne Arriale's first live album, her second, Live, brings out the best tendencies in her trio's playing. Arriale has long been established as one of the most creative and thoughtful pianists in jazz, and after ten years together she and her band -- bassist Jay Anderson and drummer Steve Davis -- know where one another is heading long before they get there, making for playfully intuitive and often unexpected interactions. ...

| | Charlie Barnet Live At Basin Street East CD (2006) Import
Come Together
$13.25 Personnel: Charlie Barnet (saxophone); Clark Terry (trumpet, flugelhorn); Randy Brecker, Snooky Young (trumpet). Recording information: Basin St. East (12/24/1966-12/31/1966). Some 40 years after Charlie Barnet led a big band in live performance at New York's Basin Street East, the amazing Scotland-based Hep record label brought out the only known recording of this ensemble, which included trumpeters Clark Terry, Randy Brecker, and Snooky Young, trombonist Jimmy Cleveland, saxophonists Barnet, Willie Smith, and Richie Kamuca, and pianist Nat Pierce, with arrangements by Bill Holman and Billy Byers. This recording, made in December 1966, appears to have been the last to feature altoist Smith, who rose to prominence with the Jimmie Lunceford Orchestra in the '30s and would succumb to cancer only three months after this recording was made. ...

| | Land Of 1000 Dances: All Twistin' Edition CD (2009) (Import) United Kingdom
Come Together
$17.35 2009 compilation dedicated to The Twist, the '60s dance craze that got the whole world out of their armchairs and gyrating across the floor. Ace has devoted a whole CD in its Land Of 1000 Dances series to the unique phenomenon that was and forever will be The Twist. Though Chubby Checker's hit song that started it all is NOT included, there are some delightful twistin' tracks here that are just as memorable, including Joey Dee & The Starlighters' classic 'Peppermint Twist'. 24 tracks including cuts from Hank Ballard, Linda Hopkins, Petula Clark, The Isley Brothers, The Marvelettes, Bill Haley and many others.
Liner Note Author: Tony Rounce. The Twist, of course, was the most popular topic for rock & roll dance songs when dance-craze tunes briefly became a dominant trend in popular music in the early '60s. So it's not too hard to compile an entire CD of Twist songs from the era, though you might think it another matter to make such a thing too listenable. But Ace Records, as usual, comes through with a well-selected and smartly annotated volume of 24 such tracks with Land of 1000 Dances: All Twistin' Edition, though the limited subject matter does make this a little bit of a novelty compilation even if you're a big oldies collector. Some of the core classics of the mini-genre are here, starting with Hank Ballard & the Midnighters' original version of "The Twist," though nothing by the guy who stole his thunder, Chubby Checker, is here due to licensing difficulties. (Such hurdles unfortunately also prevented the inclusion of any material from Sam Cooke, who did one of the greatest Twist hits, "Twisting the Night Away"). But as compensation, ...
