Purchase Something To Brag About CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Joe Nichols Revelation CD (2004)
Something To Brag About album
$6.69 One of the most traditional-sounding of the Nashville "new traditionalists," Joe Nichols is possessed of a rich, warm baritone that recalls the gritty golden pipes of legends George Jones, Conway Twitty, and, in particular, Merle Haggard. The Arkansas native also adopts the serious tone of his heroes, eschewing Music Row boot-scooting tunes in favor of songs full of heartbreak and soul-searching. The production on REVELATION reinforces the material's substantiality, focusing on uncluttered arrangements that allow the fine playing of Music City's finest (David Hungate, Bryan ...
| | Randy Travis Passing Through CD (2004)
Something To Brag About CD music
$15.65 Well into his third decade as a country singer, Randy Travis continued to weather the changes in country music by remaining true to his own aesthetic. Travis was at the frontline of country's New Traditionalists in the 1980s, and, on 2004's PASSING THROUGH, he remains as roots-conscious as ever. For instance, the album's opening cut, the inspirational "Pick Up the Oars and Row," neatly splits the difference between Western Swing and barroom ballad, while the relatively up-tempo (Travis generally likes things slow and steady) "My Poor Old Heart" ventures into vintage George Jones honky-tonk territory. Travis retains one of the finest baritones in all of country music. On such ballads as the devotional "I'm Your Man" (not to be confused with the Leonard Cohen song of the same name) and the heart-on-a-sleeve "I Can See It in Your Eyes," he digs in deep to find every ounce of emotion in the song, twisting his captivating vocal chords around the melodies with an easy sense of mastery. That deceptively casual grace is the stuff of which true country legends are made.

| | Johnny Paycheck On His Way CD (2005)
Something To Brag About music CDs
$10.59 Although Johnny Paycheck (born Donald Eugene Lytle) looks surprisingly clean-cut and idol-worthy on the cover of ON HIS WAY, the music on offer is straight-up, tear-in-your-beer 1960s country. More than a decade before the bearded, cowboy-hat-wearing Paycheck hit the big time with the defiant "Take This Job and Shove It," ...
| | Bellamy Brothers Angels & Outlaws Volume 1 CD (2005)
Something To Brag About songs
$8.49 Angels & Outlaws, Vol. 1 marks the initial release of the Bellamy Brothers' two-disc retrospective celebrating the 30th anniversary of their first number one hit, "Let Your Love Flow," in 1976. To commemorate the occasion, brothers Howard and David Bellamy assembled a wide array of guest artists, including Alan Jackson, Dolly Parton, George Jones, and Tanya Tucker, to add a new twist to several of their most recognizable hits. Souped-up versions of "Sugar Daddy," "Old Hippie," "Redneck Girl," and "If I Said You Had a Beautiful Body (Would You Hold It Against Me)" work well with slightly different arrangements and guest vocalists. With the release of Angels & Outlaws, Vol. 1, the Bellamy Brothers deliver the goods instead of simply providing re-recorded tracks, which they've done in the past with lackluster results, or plainly reissuing the same hits yet again, like they did on the 2001 release The 25 Year Collection. As ...
| | Merle Haggard Chicago Wind CD (2005)
Something To Brag About album
$15.65 After a somewhat tepid foray into the Great American Songbook with 2004's UNFORGETTABLE, Merle Haggard returned to his fiery, outlaw roots on 2005's CHICAGO WIND. The album is a brilliant return to form, in large part because it reunites Haggard with producer Jimmy Bowen, an ex-Nashville ...

Something To Brag About music CDs
$15.05 With the gradual departure of most of its original members and the sudden and untimely death of mandolinist/singer/founder John Duffey in late 1996, one might forgive the Seldom Scene if it had just given up the ghost. But instead, the sole remaining original member (banjoist Ben Eldridge) gathered some of the more recent participants around him (guitarist Dudley Connell, mandolinist Lou Reid, bassist Ronnie Simpkins, and Dobro player Fred Travers) and made one of the better Seldom Scene albums of ...
