Poe has had some bad luck with love, and she's not afraid to talk about her attraction to the submissive role in off-kilter relationships. On Poe's furious "Trigger Happy Jack," she confronts her tendency to masochism and her ambivalence with brutal honesty: "I hate myself/Just enough to want him/But I hate him just enough to get off." There is also a kind of integrity in her mostly close-up, clean, careful vocals, which are laid over a background clattered with savage guitar work and samples that vary from hip-hop to noise to lounge music. Hers is a versatile voice, alternating between sweet melodies, vehement near-screams, and grainy, lo-fi spoken word. The sound of HELLO is altogether eclectic and quirky, and its plaintiveness is offset by the fact that Poe doesn't take herself too seriously, even when she talks about her loneliness. In "Fingertips," when she sings "anyone would do, could be you," she means it, but she's also laughing at herself. Personnel: Poe (vocals); Eric Garcia (guitar, keyboards); Dean Pleasants, Tony Wilson (guitar); Richard Barrow (flute); Jeffrey Connor (bass guitar, programming); Matt Sorum, Jon Brooks (drums); Ronnie Estelle, Lionel Cole (programming). Blending technology with organic rock, Hello, the 1995 debut by the well-traveled singer/songwriter Poe is a striking record that manages to groove and feed the head with well-written observations. Working with a myriad of co-writers, producers (including Dave Jerden of Alice in Chains fame), and musicians (including ex-Guns N' Roses drummer Matt Sorum), Hello could have been an unfocused mess. However, that is not the case; the album has a definite cohesiveness. The title track leads things off with a hypnotic, ambient pop vibe as Poe attempts to communicate with someone who will not be reached. At the other end of the spectrum is the following cut, "Trigger Happy Jack." Over grinding guitars, Poe again expresses an inability to communicate with someone and the chorus is immediately memorable. Maybe a little schizophrenic musically, Hello is an enjoyable romp where practically each track is a surprise waiting to be found. ~ Tom DemalonQ (12/96, p.147) - 3 Stars (out of 5) - "...mixes 'n' matches heaviness and delicacy, programmed beats and grunge guitars, simple piano and touches of jazz, neat melody and distorting effects. Many of her allegorical lyrics deal with communication....a debut well worth investigating." Hello
$10.49 Digitally remastered reissue edition of the original best selling classic that sent Wings' popularity to the sky. Includes the Top 40 and FM radio favorites of the title track, "Jet", "Let Me Roll It", "1985", "Bluebird" plus the added bonus tracks of the hit non-LP single "Helen Wheels" and "Country Dreamer". The booklet includes the complete lyrics and is filled with photos and recording details.
This UK edition includes two bonus tracks. Neither the dippy, rustic Wild Life nor the slick AOR flourishes of Red Rose Speedway earned Paul McCartney much respect, so he made the self-consciously ambitious Band on the Run to rebuke his critics. On the surface, Band on the Run appears to be constructed as a song cycle in the vein of Abbey Road, but subsequent listens reveal that the only similarities the two albums share are simply superficial. McCartney's talent for songcraft and nuanced arrangements is in ample display throughout the record, which makes many of the songs -- including the nonsensical title ...

$11.89 PLEASE READ!!***track listing is not the same for this release and different stars 2002. please check before your final purchase. thanks & enjoy!***"If deep, breathy dreamscapes and ethereal, mournful elegance are what you seek, you'll find them here. ..Tears will undoubtedly follow, of joy and despair, and an overwhelming desire to dwell in this space forevermore." -Logo Magazine"...it makes you feel iike you're listening to music for the first time. Yeah, the album 'different stars is that good...."-CitizenRobot .com___The Southern California dream pop band Trespassers William make their Nettwerk debut by reissuing their 2002 album Different Stars. Originally issued on the band's own Sonik Wire and eventually Simon Raymonde's Bella Union in the U.K., this particular package doesn't totally differ from its previous releases. It's basically a preview to the band's hypnotic and lush soundscape that's yet to come. Those who are familiar with Trespassers William's delightful pop melodies might already own Different Stars, but for those who don't, the Nettwerk version includes slightly different artwork, one brand new song, and a bonus track; a live version of "Different Stars" from KCRW. KCRW and KEXP out of Seattle were early supporters of the band, and it's partly because of them that the band's sound has reached the indie rock masses. Anna-Lynne Williams' soft, angelic vocals, which are eerily similar to Aimee Mann's, are flawlessly matched with Matt Brown's keyboard and guitar arrangements. Trespassers William isn't sonically daring, but their refined presentation is exactly in place. From the lovelorn ballads such as "Lie in the Sound" and "Let You Down" to the sparse twang of "Alone," Different Stars maintains a quiet atmosphere with slow-changing moods and textures. "What Could I Say," which isn't included on the original album, is Trespassers William's shining moment. The cold chill of acoustic guitars and Williams' lovely vocal delivery resonates early material by the Sundays and Mazzy Star. A cover of Ride's classic epic "Vapour Trail" is dressed in pianos, ebbing synth beats, and again, Williams' achingly beautiful voice surrounds its sheer texture. Different Stars isn't wildly creative, however it fits among the indie rock/indie pop pack of 2004. Those who will always adore the dream pop/shoegazer sounds of the early '90s should enjoy the sonic bliss that is Trespassers William. [The Bella Union edition of Different Stars from 2002 includes the track "Just Like This," which is not ...
