| | Archers Of Loaf All the Nation's Airports CD Archers Of Loaf Discography of CDs
Hints of intrigue, some seemingly pulled from the nation's headlines, litter the song titles and lyrics, casting dark shadows over this cinematic, mid-tempo music. Most of the songs are constructed in multiple parts, and some are sequenced as suites. The trio of "Worst Defense," "Attack Of The Killer Bees" and "Rental Sting" opens with a deep punky row, moves into feedback and crashed into a sonically spiky folk song. Eric Bachmann's cracked voice narrates with a grand touch of melancholy, and the band's riffs support him to the end. It is advised that you do not leave your seat until this album taxis all the way to the terminal.
After the near-revolutionary fervor of 1995's VEE VEE, the Archers Of Loaf's third album sounds restrained and introspective. Which is not to say the no-longer-indie Archers are now spewing personalized singer-songwriter fodder. ALL THE NATIONS AIRPORTS is a Raymond Carver-esque collection of thematically-entangled short stories, tied together by score-like passages that genuinely imply action. AIRPORTS is still pungent with the Archers' patented musical expression--detuned strings a la Sonic Youth and Pavement, great mid-song turns that recall pure-popsters and math-rockers alike, the occasional punk moment--but the unadulterated indie-rock anthems of the past have been grounded.
Archers Of Loaf: Eric Bachmann, Eric Johnson, Matt Gentling, Mark Price.
Spin (10/96, p.138) - 7 (out of 10) - "...they play folk-noise punk that's a relief from the secondhand doom, tissue-paper sexiness, and wooden rage all around them. If ALL THE NATIONS AIRPORTS, the Archer's third album, suffers from a road band's insularity, a dozen small improvements in execution and excitement more than compensate..." Alternative Press (3/97, p.60) - 3 (out of 5) - "...[along with] the Loafers' trademark...uneven guitar squealing and beefy indie rock....AIRPORT distinguishes itself in its distracting interludes....Apart from the occasional quirk, AIRPORTS is an Archer triumph." NME (Magazine) (9/21/96, p.53) - 7 (out of 10) - "...This sounds like an album made by four different bands, three of which are pretty bloody good..." All the Nation's Airports album
$6.19 The '60s Blues Revival begins here. Calling this album influential is an understatement akin to calling the Grand Canyon a rut; suffice to say that an entire generation of musicians (mostly young and white) heard this and had their lives changed forever. In fact, for at least a year after the album's release in 1965, it was impossible ...
| | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
All the Nation's Airports CD music
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, ...

All the Nation's Airports music CDs
$11.99 A sprawling two-disc set, the Drive-By Truckers' SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA is a cracked masterpiece that's enjoyable on several different levels. Hipsters might enjoy the giggly premise of a two-disc set devoted to a slightly altered retelling of the rise and fall of 1970s Southern rock icons Lynyrd Skynyrd. Progressive rock fans lamenting the modern era's relative lack of story-driven albums divided into "Act I" and "Act II" will latch ...
| | Antony I Am A Bird Now CD (2005)
All the Nation's Airports songs
$12.49 Though he probably achieved his greatest mainstream recognition backing up Lou Reed on tour, idiosyncratic songbird Antony is a fully established artiste in his own right. Backed by the Johnsons, as on I AM A BIRD NOW, he crafts delicate ballads that skirt the lines between cabaret, artsong, and pop, with the kind of voice that Stephin Merritt would probably kill for. Antony's unique pipes bring to mind an androgynous Bryan Ferry or a high, quavery summit meeting between Jimmy Scott (another Reed supporter) and Aaron Neville. The stately, graceful, largely piano-driven songs on ...
| | Dredg Catch Without Arms CD (2005)
All the Nation's Airports album
$8.49 Early on, critics often described Dredg as a metal group. However, the quartet has since matured into a hard-edged indie-rock ensemble that seeks diversity and refinement in its music. On CATCH WITHOUT ARMS, the band favors highly ...
