As the child of Japanese musicians who reside in both New York City and Tokyo, Utada Hikaru was perhaps predestined for a career as a performer informed by multiculturalism. On her first major-label English-language album, Utada (who previously sold over nine million albums in Japan) delivers a diverse collection of urbane, modern, and, at times, almost avant-garde electronica and dance music. From the hard house beats of "Devil Inside" to the sing-song hip-hop/R&B amalgam of "Easy Breezy," EXODUS mixes progressive club music with a broad sense of experimentation rarely seen in the pop world. Of course, Utada's remarkable voice--which sounds like a cross between Tori Amos, Yoko Ono, and Madonna--is the center of the storm; on "Tippy Toe," the ex-Columbia University student swoops to great heights and back down again, matching her often intensely personal, wryly humorous lyrics with an unpredictable melody. A true fusion of Western and Eastern music's edgier elements thrown together in an after-hours disco melting pot, EXODUS heralds the American arrival of an unusual and challenging artist.

3 stars This is a great CD
This is a great Album. This her finest work. Utada wrote all the songs except 3 & 13 she co-wrote those songs with Timbland. I listen to the whole cd straight. Her lyrics are orginal and displays many worlds. I feel she is showing a side of herself that she couldn't show in Japan. Songs like "tippy toe" and "give you my love" are excellent for the club scene. She also has songs like "hotel Lobby" that has excellent lyrics. This is a must cd if you are looking for orginallity and a whole new sound.

5 stars Utada rocks!
OK there a 3 kinds of CD's. (1. they are just bad no matter how much you listen to them. (2. Sounds good after a few listens, and (3. Great from the start. Utada Hikaru's "Exodus" fits under (3. She is indeed very talented and her CD was worth the $20 I payed.

5 stars Awesome Cd!!!!
Since I'm a big fan of Utada (a.k.a. Hikaru Utada) I just had to buy it. My favorite song is Easy Breezy. Though I could've done without Opening being the same as Crossover Interlude. I think Exodus '04 should go on Now or Totally Hits!

Whitney Houston's soulful, elastic voice was practically made to wrap around Christmas standards, but despite the naturalness of the match, ONE WISH, out for Christmas 2003, as the singer neared her third decade of performing, marks her first holiday album. What lies within shouldn't disappoint as she covers many familiar tunes with just a sprinkle of recent music, the sweet-as-sugar title track originally by Freddie Jackson. While Houston's been through her share of publicized drama over the years, her voice betrays no hint of the strife on ONE WISH. She begins in the vein of a female Nat ...

Skating Club Unfound Sound CD  (2004)

"The alone-again Anderson has combined the strengths of both (previous) discs into the gorgeous pop atmospheres on The Unfound sound -- his best work yet."--CMJ Weekly "...the spare, carefully layered beauty of Skating Club's excellent new The Unfound Sound"--The Boston Phoenix The Unfound Sound is Skating Club's third full-length and their first release on Kimchee. While Unfound retains the engaging experimental sonic elements and down-tempo indie pop charm of the previous critically acclaimed Skating Club records, the sound on this record pushes farther into the pop realm. It is bedtime music that will stay in your head the next day. It also might claim a stylistic place in the still somewhat unheralded canon of music flowing from Nick Drake to Red House Painters. The album's title plays a little on the difficulty of getting independent music out into the world.Skating Club has always been part extended family and part pick-up soccer game. Members often come and go with different sessions and tours depending on everyone's schedule and needs. The essential player, however, has always been songwriter Aubrey Anderson. Aubrey's approach to The Unfound Sound was considerably different than on the last two records: this time he played almost every instrument himself and worked in relative isolation rather than collaborating with others as he has done in the past. The result is a more focused musical narrative that's as personal as a memoir. And for the listener, it's a musical experience as invigorating yet comforting as your morning cup of coffee.*************After the collapse of his seminal shoegazer band Difference Engine, Aubrey Anderson became disillusioned with creating music. Years of early nineties touring with the likes of The Fall and The John Spencer Blues Explosion had come to an end. So Anderson started a small indie studio in Boston and began recording local groups. Some years passed and he formed a short-lived new band, The Westerlies, but when it broke up his focus once again shifted to the studio. During off hours Anderson would mess around with songs that had collected through the years, his music-making now more a personal passion. This was the music that had been sitting inside Anderson's mind for ...

If AC/DC and Joan Jett were to have a child, and allow Van Halen, Motley Crue and Metallica to babsysit frequently, the result would be \"Vision\". Vision’s sound is influenced by classic and 80’s rock/blues rock, with a touch of modern rock mixed in. Having a female front the bad gives a nice twist to the traditional feel. The band prides themselves on thoughtful, melodic lyrics layered over hard driving rhythms. Vision was formed by David Vignola (guitar) and Juliette \"Jules\" Vignola (bass, vocals) in 2006. While they looked for band members they began writing the early songs which would eventually go on the first CD. After several lineup and name changes, the current lineup including Joe Johnston (keys, guitar), Diane Calano (drums) and Michelle Privée (lead vocals) was completed ...
