Country Christmas Hits
$13.29 Cantor Komrad is the first female hazzan to hold a pulpit in a Conservative synagogue in the history of the Baltimore-Washington area. She was among the first of a generation of women to be invested into the clergy by Judaism's Conservative Movement in 1994. At that time, she graduated with a Master of Sacred Music and a Diploma of Hazzan from the five-year program at the Jewish Theological Seminary, Cantorial School, in New York and Jerusalem, Israel. Since then she has held pulpits at both Reform and Conservative congregations.Cantor Komrad most recently appeared in concert (November 2005) with Cantors Sol Zim and Alberto Mizrahi for the International Cantorial Foundation, at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts, Chicago. She is the first female cantor to participate in a concert for the Foundation. She was featured as one of "The Twelve Leading Cantors of Our Time" in the Jubilee Anniversary Concert of the Cantors Assembly in Chicago, Illinois in 1997, and in the concert of "World Renowned Cantors" at the famous Temple Emanu-El of New York City in 1998--the first cantorial concert in that synagogue's 150-year history. She has consisteltly been selected to perform at the Cantors' Assembly (CA) Nation Conventions. | | Dale Hawkins La Memphis & Tyler Texas CD (1969) (Import) Remastered; United Kingdom
Country Christmas Hits
$15.65 Swamp rock ace Dale Hawkins recorded this gem in 1969 in three different studios in the three cities of the album's title. A tasty gumbo of soul, country, R&B, and vintage rock & roll, the album bears traces of the locales in which the music was birthed, as well as the general zeitgeist of the era, with its mellow feel and laid-back kitchen-sink approach. Boasting a stunning supporting cast--featuring Taj Mahal, Ry Cooder, and legendary Sun records sessions kingpin James Burton--L.A., MEMPHIS & TYLER, TEXAS is a rock-&-roll party of the highest order. A true lost gem, the album was reissued to an appreciative audience in 2007. Dale Hawkins, of course, is best known for "Suzie-Q" -- a Top 30 Billboard hit for him in 1957 that turned into a garage rock standard in the '60s. During that decade, Hawkins was relatively quiet as a record-maker, but he did behind-the-scenes work as a producer before resurfacing in 1969 with LA, Memphis & Tyler, Texas on Bell Records. Named after the three towns it was recorded in, it's a bit easy to overrate LA, Memphis upon its first listen because it comes as a shock that Hawkins was more than a rockabilly cat. He was an early roots rocker, certainly, ...
