Morcheeba plays a stunning 2002 set at Brixton Academy and then embarks on a tour of China in 2003. The bonus 24-minute tour documentary shows footage of the band playing live in Beijing and discussing their experiences in China. Morcheeba distinguished itself from many acts in the mid-1990s electronica revival with its trip-hop grooves and liquid vocals of singer Sky Edwards. With a mixture of jazz fusion, funk, and blues, Morcheeba became a popular dance band. Here, the group performs in a live concert in Brixton, England, and becomes the subject of a documentary covering their 2003 tour of China. Morcheeba - From Brixton To Beijing film
$10.05 With this debut, Tori Amos rose above the inevitable Kate Bush/Joni Mitchell comparisons, producing a stunning set of brutally honest and emotionally wrought songs. A skilled and imaginative pianist, Amos also proved a versatile vocalist, moving from whisper to scream in an instant. She concentrates on intimate stories of her religious upbringing, childhood traumas, and predominantly, sex, self-discovery and unhappy relationships. "Silent All These Years" was the first to hit a nerve with the public on single release, but all the tracks--memories of her father ...
| | Morcheeba Big Calm CD (1998)
Morcheeba - From Brixton To Beijing review
$10.69 Morcheeba is a band with all its bases covered. Brothers Ross and Paul Godfrey pull in opposite directions, with Ross handling the more organic range of instrumentation, from guitar to Hammond organ, while Paul takes care of programming and turntable work. Add to that formula the self-ordained "Sound Surgeon" Pete Norris and the cool, ethereal voice of singer Skye Edwards, whose quiet self-assurance provides a meeting ground for the eclectic sonic amalgam that is Morcheeba's BIG CALM.
Burbling analog synths and gritty slide guitar dominate on "Part Of The Process," setting the pace for the wild diversity of sounds to follow. Serene keyboards and buzzing drum samples provide the unique backdrop for the timeless melody of "Blindfold." Lush string arrangements and beautiful fingerpicked guitar grace the close harmonies and confessional lyrics of "Over And Over." Powerful string orchestration also lifts the ballad "Fear And Love." "Friction" features a deep reggae groove, a horn section and chatting by Spikey T.
Additional personnel includes: Spikey T (spoken vocals); Pierre Le Rue (fiddle); Jimmy Hastings (flute); Gary Baldwin (Hammond B-3 organ); DJ First Rate, DJ Swamp (scratches); Joe Cooper (percussion, background vocals); Peggi Gayle, Graeme Kyle (background vocals).

| | Portishead - Roseland New York DVD (1997)
Morcheeba - From Brixton To Beijing movie DVD
$10.55 British trip-hop group Portishead broke out during a mid-1990s wave of electronic innovation occurring in their hometown of Bristol. Their gloomy, jazzy sound managed to set them apart from Bristol contemporaries like techno pioneer Tricky and drum 'n bass guru Roni Size, and they soon gained a dedicated following. Resoundingly haunting beats and the echoing choruses sung in Beth Gibbon's smoky voice are signatures of the Portishead sound. ROSELAND NEW YORK was filmed ...
| | Palindromes DVD (2004)
Morcheeba - From Brixton To Beijing video
$14.99 With PALINDROMES, fiercely independent writer-director Todd Solondz (HAPPINESS, STORYTELLING) places the topic of abortion under his scathing microscope. This time around, Solondz takes an even more daring approach by casting seven different actors to play the film's lead role. Aviva Victor is the young New Jersey cousin of the recently deceased Dawn Wiener (the heroine from Solondz's Sundance-winning WELCOME TO THE DOLLHOUSE). Living under the watchful eye of her overprotective parents Joyce (Ellen Barkin) and Steve (Richard Masur), Aviva dreams of the day when she will be able to call herself a mother--a wish that is prematurely granted after an adolescent tryst. Unfortunately, her parents will not allow her to have the baby under any circumstances, which causes Aviva to run away from home. On the road, she falls for a lonely trucker (Stephen Adly Guirgis) and winds up at the home of the ultra-evangelical Mama Sunshine (Debra Monk), who cares for a wide variety of disabled children. But when the trucker reappears and it becomes quite clear that the bond he shares with Aviva is not just some perverted fantasy, the relationship builds to its inevitably tragic conclusion. Solondz's biting satire is a bold statement in support of a mother's ...
